    Ripping software..

On that subject, I recently started lurking taperssection. I was surprised how accepted using cracked software is over there.

    Pls recommend affordable software compressor

Thanks. I'd like to give those a shot. What's the cheapest way to a VST host program? It's for premastering/finalizing of recordings that were done direct to 2-track with stereo pairs. Classical and accoustic music that (at least arguably) sounds best with minimalist recording techniques...

How many cds have you sold on cd baby?

It's only like Payola if the fact that you have to buy your way on to the list is hidden. Otherwise it's just paid promotion. Do you think its by accident that Coke and Pepsi get the big end of isle displays while Shasta gets shasted?

How many cds have you sold on cd baby?

I don't see how it is at all like Payola. Please explain.

    Pls recommend affordable software compressor

That's just what I was looking for --- if it sounds good.

    Pls recommend affordable software compressor

Are there any 2-ch. software compressors that are not real expensive and don't unduly distort or color the sound? Thanks

    Recording a Piano??

I'd put the SM58 in or just above the top (open) and the B1 2/3 of the way back in the room.

perfect tiny mobile recorder?? Could this work?

Re: using the line in? Yes, huge improvement over built-in pre. But (a) you can do better still by using external ADC as well and (b) those units are great for the stealth-type mics they're made for, but you need adaptors for an XLR mic and then they won't supply phantom power (if they did...

A bit lacking in the battery life department.

perfect tiny mobile recorder?? Could this work?

The Edirol UA-5 would probably fit the bill. It is not battery powered, but takes 9VDC so you should be able to fashion a solution easily enough. Again, the sites I metioned in my first reply above have the information you are looking for.

perfect tiny mobile recorder?? Could this work?

Re: optical I haven't used the CO2, but there is some chatter out there about it being unreliable, limited tolerances or something, so you may wish to check that out. I use the Radio Shack equivalent, which is only about $15. It has worked fine for me based on my ears, but I've never done...

perfect tiny mobile recorder?? Could this work?

The Nomad is a tried and true choice among tapers. An early negative review that's still on the net scared people away from it, but either it was wrong or the problems were fixed in the firmware updates. The internal A/D conversion is very serviceable, but the mic pre is horrendous. See Yahoo...

    24/96 portable 2-track solution - opinions?

One upgrade just keeps leading to another. . . Since I'm switching to Wavelab for mastering and editing, I thought it would be worthwhile to take advantage of the dithering and track at 24/96 files instead of 16/44 or 16/48. Right now I record to two-track in the field (small clubs, school...

    About Roland MMP-2 Mic PreAmp

I have one for a couple months. After a brief trial on my voice and accoustic guitar (very pleased) I used it for a couple of live performances. I was generally satisfied with the results, although I found the bass to be somewhat more rolled off (but still well extended) than what I heard in...

    I Need Help...house Was Robbed.

You should post what was taken -- it's not impossible that someone on these boards will spot the stuff on the used market. Orchestral instruments are often recovered that way.

    Live Show Recording

I don't think some of those posts addressed your question. I'm not familiar with Shure BG, but if you're getting too much crowd noise, you probably would do well to switch to mics with tighter polar patterns. Look for hypercardioids or supercardioids, or even short shotguns (that are...
