Thanks. I'd like to give those a shot. What's the cheapest way to a VST host program? It's for premastering/finalizing of recordings that were done direct to 2-track with stereo pairs. Classical and accoustic music that (at least arguably) sounds best with minimalist recording techniques...

The Edirol UA-5 would probably fit the bill. It is not battery powered, but takes 9VDC so you should be able to fashion a solution easily enough. Again, the sites I metioned in my first reply above have the information you are looking for.

You should post what was taken -- it's not impossible that someone on these boards will spot the stuff on the used market. Orchestral instruments are often recovered that way.
