oh how id love your advice about now.

In that case, the oxygen 8 would be a good choice, and wou would then need to pick out a USB powered audio interface like this http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackUSB-main.html There are other USB powered interface of course. I would look at the selection at musicians friend if you...

oh how id love your advice about now.

I would recommend simply getting the m-audio OZONE. It is a midi keyboard the same size as oxygen but it has a built in USB audio interface as well. The Ozone -- http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MAudioOzone-main.html It has a 1/4" input with a preamp AND and XLR input w/ preamp, and...

laptop recording setup, PC or Mac?

I bought a 12" ibook last January and it is wonderful. Laptops tend to run into issues when it comes to hard drive speed. The ibook's stock internal hard drive is 4200 rpm to save battery but it is just not sufficient when you have multiple tracks running...the hard disk can't keep up. I knew...

laptop setup with Mbox/Pro Tools and Reason

You would not be able to use the Delta 1010 on a laptop, but there are several m-audio options that would work listed here: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.list&ID=mobileinterfaces You can find the one she would like and the hunt around the net for the best prices. Then you could...

Just making sure this will work (Mac laptop)

I use my ibook G4 to record and it works well as long as I use my external firewire drive with it. I generally run all samples and loops from the firewire drive as well as recording to it. The internal drive is 4200rpm and is not useful at all for recording purposes.

    Here's my problem...

Yeah. Norton Ghost will work or any other similar utility. If the "new" drive is actually new it should probably come with a floppy that has some utilities from the drives manufacturer that will very easily allow you to copy the old drive to the new one. Either tell your tech to do it or get...

How will Apple's processor change from IBM to Intel alter their product?

You won't need all new software thanks to rosetta, but you will probably want the new stuff for you most intensive apps since rosetta will slow PowerPC apps down.

    Arguments for Mac over PC

I have been a PC user since 1991, and I have used Macs only intermittently as circumstances allowed. Now I use both and I love both, although if this comparison were based on the sheer beauty of the gui...Mac wins hands-down. I have a 12" ibook g4 that I bought in January, I upgraded the RAM...

Can I use a USB interface as a standalone ADC?

You need it hooked into a computer to setup the options. You will need to choose 16 or 24 bit, etc and that can't be done without a computer of some kind.

ok talk me out of this

You will find plenty of people around here willing to rant about their favorite platform or OS, but few will really tell you that it simply doesn't matter anymore. Windows XP can be configured to be stable and run forever. My desktop computer is a PC that has been running the same installation...

How do you guys "play" Midi drums..

I've just started using cubase, but my drum method is always the same no matter what program I'm using. I create the initial drum track by using some kind of softsynth drums like a soundfont, giving me a basic midi drum track. Then I get the nice details in by editing the midi track.

    Mic/Soundcard Noise

Are you using an outboard mixer or the preamps built into the soundcard? The biggest noise in any of my recordings has come from preamps. I just have never had a decent mixer for recording. I solved this problem by buying the M-Audio USB Omnistudio from Musician's Friend for $200.00 It gave...

    M-audio omni studio usb

I recently bought the USB Omnistudio and i love it. It has fantastic quality and good onboard preamps. I use it to record pretty much just myself, but It will support up to 4 input channels simultaneously. I also own the Audiophile 2496 (On my PC) and the Omnistudio (Which I can easily switch...

    best hardware/software for MAC

Hmmm...I'm also looking for Mac software. I just switched to an ibook g4 and I will be using my USB omnistudio from M-Audio with it and an 80 GB external HD, but I am clueless as to what software I should look at. What I am really looking for is an intuitive interface and sound quality. I...

    Finally Garageband 2

I'm pretty excited about GarageBand, of course I have only used it a little bit, I got the 12" iBook G4 on saturday and put in an additional 1GB of memory today. Of course since I bought it on the 8th I'm pretty sure I don't qualify for the $20.00 upgrade price for iLife '05. *sigh*

Is it possible to get by with what I have?

I used a AMD k6-2 450 for my first foray into computer recording with the SB Live and made some decent recordings with it. I had 128 Ram though. You should be able to get 4-6 tracks down though, without anything fancy. The songs I started with had about six tracks all with effects and the...

    Soundcard for Recording

I can't say anything about the emu, but I have been using my Audiphile 2496 for over a year and I love it. When I upgrade I am planning on getting the 1010lt. I am loving m-audio.
