    Recording Software

N-Track is pretty User Friendly. Ableton Live is pretty user friendly too. None of them are really all that hard to use though, and even the most user friendly ones have a learning curve when you want to go beyond the basics. I would think in terms of what you want to accomplish and go from...

    noobie wants to go protools

I am a firm believer in using the machine that suits you best. You will be more productive on the machine you are most comfortable using. Pro Tools works equally well on Windows XP and Mac OS X so you will be fine either way. If you are not sure which you prefer, just head out to a COMP USA...

desire: more recorded tracks. need more inputs?

You need a soundcard that has a least that number of inputs, and software that supports it as well. The software shouldn' be much of a problem, as most DAW software supports at least 8 tracks simultaneous recording. I would recommend the M-Audio Delta 1010lt. It has 8/8 analog I/O and will...

    protools help with mic

Hmmm....The Mbox is digidesign hardware, not m-audio. Take a look at the mbox hardware. It has a little button with some led's to the right of it for mic, line, and inst. Use the button to switch between (if your mic is plugged into the mbox then you should have mic selected). The Mbox 2...

    motu 828 and garageband

What version of Garage Band do you have? Garage Band 1.0 is limited to 2 simultaneous tracks I believe. 2.0 supports up to 8 tracks simultaneously.

    help Me!

I used a PC with an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 as a multi-purpose rig for a few years and it worked great for games and audio. I would say ditch the soundblaster and go for the Audiophile :)

cake or mac for guitar oriented music

I love it when these questions come up :) Either one is fine. If you aren't a Mac user now, I can assure you that the Mac UI is wonderful. It only took me a few minutes to get used to it. As far as whether you should use Cakewalk on a PC or some other app on a mac, I can honestly tell you...

Power Book plus Logic Pro plus M Audio Control Surface I/O=recording my band?

I am assuming you mean ProjectMIx I/O control surface. I have used it briefly at a friends studio and it worked very well with his setup (Logic Pro on Dual G5). It would handle the band easily but you will need to get an ADAT i/o to fully use the 18 inputs the interface has. 8 analog is...

    Punch-in: Yes or No?

I have used punch ins on n-track several times, although only on vocal tracks. When the singer got a great take except for one little phrase or word here or there. It works fine, but you need to watch your latency if you are manually punching in.

    Cool edit problem...

Listen to moskus,he is wise. If you're getting a small amount of bleed, it is probably coming through from your monitor when you record your second track (i.e you have a drum track and then you put on headphones to record your guitar track. If you play back the guitar track and hear the drums...

    Vocal Cut???

There are some EQ plug-ins with presets that will take out most of the vocal. But the rest of the song ends up sounding like garbage. That's why when you go to Karake bars you generally hear re-recorded versions of instrument tracks unless the original record company released accompaniment...

Do they make cakewalk for mac??

Yeah Metro really didn't cut it so CW dropped it. It is still being sold by the creator's own company but it looks and feels NOTHING like CW pro or SONAR. Logic is fantastic, and not all that hard to learn, but recently I demo'd Ableton Live 5 on the mac and I think it is brilliant. I will be...

Do I HAVE to use pro tools?

The software is tied to hardware, but the hardware does not depend on the software. I know guys with the MBox 1&2, 001, and 002 and only the guy with the 002 is using pro tools. The other fellas are using SONAR, Tracktion, Logic, you name it.

    cubase dongle help

I wouldn't want to help a naughty cracker, but I do remember how lean my college years were money-wise, so I will say that you should probably run a search on Google for "Cubase Dongle Crack" or something to that effect. I met a high school kid (at my church no less) a few weeks ago who was...

looking for simple drum track & synth software

There are TONS of good drum programming apps out there. Fruity Loops is VERY easy, and has some pretty good sounds. http://www.threechords.com/hammerhead/ http://www.synthzone.com/drums.htm Scroll down for a list of drum software. Free ones too. I like PCDrummer as well. Also check out...

    PC vs IMAC

I have bachelor's degree in religion and history, so trust me when I say that it was totally an ear infection. In all seriousness though, use the system you are most comfortable with. I actually use both a PC (AMD 64 3000+, 768 RAM, Audiophile 2496) and my iBook (1.2 ghz, 1.25 GB RAM, M-Audio...

Nope. I have been running my iBook for a year on Broadband with no spyware or virus issues. You're safe.

    Pro Audio 9

PA9 is awesome especially for midi sequencing. I would seriously consider though looking for a version of SONAR. I know people are selling older versions on the net very cheaply, and even SONAR 1 is a huge step up from PA9.

    US-428 and n-Track: Bit-Depth Issue?

I can't speak directly to the Tascam, but I do have an M-Audio Omnistudio USB and If I want to use 24 bit I have to go into my soundcards prefs (an M-Audio Icon in control panel) and set it to 24 bit. This enables the interface to work at 16 or 24 bit. I would check the US-428's prefs to see...

    n-Track and Audiophile 2496

I have used my Audiophile 2496 PCI succesfully with n-track since I've had the card. To answer the original question... when you go to view-->Soundcard's mixer you will always get that message because It is trying to invoke the Windows Sound Mixer which does not work with the Audiophile Card...
