    CEP Basics - EQ

Boosting 6dB is often a maximum. If you can't make things sound good and you need to boost more than 6db your doing something wrong. Mic positioning is the best eq ! Try to cut rather than boost. And don't eq something just because you "have a spare eq band" Work with you ears, not your eyes...

    Beyer Dynamic m69

What's the difference between the m69n and the m69tg ? Only difference that I seem to find is that the TG has less handling noise ... Is this the ONLY difference ?? I can get both at a local second hand shop but the difference in price is significant. The m69N costs $30, the ...TG costs $125...

    Ducking with Reverb spring effects

maybe because the transducers respond differently depending on the frequency ? Palm muting has much bottom and I quess this can cause the transducers to react differently. Maybe post a sound clip or so cause I think it's all kinda weird ? It's definatly nothing you can help with a noise gate...

    Direct Box

Just see it as a sort of box that simulates a microphone output. Then connect it, just like a mic, to the preamp. A DI box wants to see a high output impedance device on its inputs and converts it to a low output impedance and balances the unbalanced signal. -> so you get pretty much what a mic...

    Mic and preamp....

A mic preamp will amplify the "weak" signal coming from the mic so that it's "strong" enough to be recorded/converted/processed/whatever. There's a function on this forum called "search". You'll find plenty of info regarding preamps if you look a little harder. Greets btw i've heard great...

    echo talk mic

A few days ago I bought a cheapo "echo talk" microphone toy. (you know the big "microphone" toy that sounds like it has a reverb in it) I thought I could experiment with it using it as a "reverb unit". I taped one ear of a sennheiser headset on the back side and put an mxl v69m in front of it...

    mic for studio?

maybe this a stupid question but ... do you also have the rest of the signal chain in mind ? Your sound wont be any better than the weakest element in your signal chain. sending a tlm 103 trough a behringer micpre and soundblaster soundcard will sound worse than a 200$ mike trough a decent...

    Mic Dilemma

sm57's don't realy have a reputation of great acoustic guitar mics but sometimes they might work. But they're great allround mics and sound at least "ok" on everything. They can sound pretty good on guitar amps and vocals. They're great for close micing drums but not as overheads. If you're...

    DI 'ing bass guitar

Di'ing mostly works ok, but micing allways adds "something extra" (the sound of the amp through the speakers in a room offcourse) that you can't get with a DI If the bass has a dominant place in the mix I tend to mic it. If it's merely low freq's without hi-mids I'd go with a DI Why don't you...

    SM57 quick questions

a few tips for the 4x12 cab: Decrease the gain on your amp ! Too much gain mostly means less powerfull and muddy sound when recording. And: try all four speakers. One could be better than the other 3 and distance to the floor (and walls) is also important. greets
