I love my faded SG....price was right, too....differences between it and the Standard are: no glossy finish, 490R and 490T pick ups instead of 490R and 498T's that the Standard has....also, the faded has half moon markers instead of dots..... The '61 re-issue Gibson SG's also have the 490 R and...

Aaron and GONZO-X pretty much nailed it....wood and electronics make big differences...other differences are made by height of strings (action) and hardware such as tuners, nuts, saddles, bridges, frets, etc.......the set up of a guitar involves all the hardware thingys, and a poorly set up...

Well, the tones Page got from his painted up tele on the first album and some if not all, (that's never been resolved) on the 2nd album were pretty killer......His 58 LP came into play somewhere around Led Zep II, if not actually on some of the cuts....even Page can't seem to give a definite...

Not a problem if the guitar gets played a lot....finger oils go a long way.....however, if you have some neglected guitars, as I do, the rosewood and ebony boards seem to like a little olive oil (yes, olive oil).....notice I said "a little", however.........gibs

If the words "Made In USA" are impressed into the back of yer headstock and the six digit number begins with a "4", you have a 1974 or 1975 model... No "Made In USA" on it, you got a '66................gibs

The Casino has a good rep, but I've heard complaints about the little neck...by all means try to play one and see if it fits, then you could probably get a good deal online.....I've been wanting to try one out, but I can't find the time to drive outta town to mess with one.....gibs

arjun , correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the AVT's would indeed have an almost modern distortion sound, because they're solid state, not tube, in their basic make up...... I haven't been able to play around with one, but I've heard great things about them besides Buck62's report...

Re: Teles.... Page, Keef, Beck.....to name 3 that got a tone that was out of this world from teles........ Die hard LP players almost always like teles as well.....it's a guitar thang................gibs :cool:
