VCQ6
I would like to hear from somebody who owns
a VCQ6 British channel Joe Meek preAmp. It is
in the $700. range and does have the EQ and
compressor. Recording magazine recommends it
for many instruments, including the acoustic
guitar. I'm ready to buy one of these units,
but would like to...
Nice stuff here
Hi Kristian,
Now that is very interesting. You use an acoustic
simulator. I'm assuming that is a unit built for
the electric guitarist and your using it on a
acoustic ? Tell me more about this 666 dreadnought
preAmp. What is a carbon fibre pick ? Sounds like
you have one of...
Re: Playability
Hi Ears,
Those Larivees definately have a nice
silkly high end, more so than most. Yes,
I like the rich taste too. My savings
account constantly screams at me too - ha.

Hi Riverdog,
I have a Tube MP also. I like it, but it
creates noise when the gain is about half way.
I use it to warm my acoustic guitar recordings.
Some people are high on the Joe Meek preamps.
They have a compressor and equalizer on board,
so adding those items...

Hi Prophet 81,
Interesting thoughts you have there. I think
the entertainment industry understands more
about human cravings than we care to know. In
fact that has alot to do with why many
entertainment people privately study at the
church of scientology. Like I said, they...
Reply to Dobro
Hi Dobro,
Yes, we finally came around to the instrument,
like chasing a signal. How about wood ? I favor
the rosewood bodied guitars. Mahagony is brighter
to me and only adds to the harshness in the
recording. I used a D-18 on my last project, and
wished I never went down that...
Recording Magazine
The latest issue of Recording Magazine,
now arriving at our homes has a great
article on Joe Meek pre-amp gear.
The VCQ3 pro channel and the VCQ6 British
channel are both completely evaluated.
The author, Mr. Stunt suggested using
these units for acoustic guitars.
He...
Re: Contact mic
Hi Ears,
Have you ever been to a acoustic concert
and had one of those experiences where the
sound is awesome? The timbre coming through
the speakers is to wonderful to explain right.
I mean the bass is crystal clear and vibrates
the clothes on your back. The mids are not...
Gathering the great thoughts
Seems like creating a song with a heart felt
lyrical topic is very key in releasing a hit.
As mentioned by others, hit songs with less than
that aim have a much shorter duration. I think
this says alot about us as human beings; we are
influenced most by what...
I had a contact pick-up once before. I attached
it with silly puddy giving me the opportunity to move it around without hurting the guitar finish. Each guitar has
it's sweetest spot with any type transducer. contact types are so very sensitive as you mentioned. Putting something between the...
Model: Fostex Model 80, 1/4" reel to reel.
I have one and really like the clean sound
I'm getting when recording through a Neuman
M147 large condensor mic. I playback through
my Yamaha NS10ms moniters and can't hear any
hiss. Any other users out there ?

Hi Record engr,
Thank you for the links on preamps.
What do you know about "convertors".
When a signal goes from analog to digital
through the convertor do you think the
signal is warmed by the convertor itself?
A studio engineer in Pittsburgh said that
some are looping...
Re: Early reflections
Hi Ears,
Yep, I was referring to absorbing the early
reflections with baffles, cutting down on
the room response. I'm set up in a corner of
my house, so I get much reflection there.
I do like the direct in from the piezo too.
I have used that in the past on punchy...
