    MP3s playback quality

reply to Rejebro I am having trouble uploading CDRs recorded in my home studio. I have no problem with songs on my commercial project from discmakers, but my CDRs won't work. Sometimes they seem to upload fine, but no sound plays back from MP3.com !!! Any ideas ? Thanks Chuck

    499 reel to reel tape

Reply to Jamiecer Hi Jamiecer, My MS-16 is a 1" machine with DBX units. I paid $ 2500 for the unit with both snakes. The heads have never been lapped. I love it. Chuck

    499 reel to reel tape

Reply to Why Tails Out? Hi Jamiecer, Thanks for the tails out info. Should I take all my unused reels and to the tails out thing, even though they won't be used for awhile, or can they wait till they are used ? Thanks, Chuck

    499 reel to reel tape

Reply to C.Lewis Hi C.Lewis I'm not a techy to the degree where I can calibrate for different tape types. I bought this MS16 from a guy who used 499 all the time. He said he switched from 457 to the 499 after hearing about it. Whether he calibrated or not is unknown; I suppose a call would...

    16 track reel to reels..

reply to cleaning heads Hi Jag, Cleaning is so very important. TASCAM company even suggests cleaning after each session, at your break times too. Just one spec of oxide can hurt your signal. - Radio shack has head cleaner available for head cleaning. Just use a Q-tip and go at it. All the...

    16 track reel to reels..

Reply to DBX comments I experimented with DBX noise reduction on my MS16 1" Tascam unit. I recorded one track with it, and one without. Then during playback, I muted back and forth to compare with my ears. There wasn't a great deal of difference, but the DBX was better in my opinion. It had...

    16 track reel to reels..

Previous Post Hi GJHardwick, I had great results with my Fostex 1/4" eight track as well. I simply needed more tracks to get my songs completed. So I now have a MS16 Tascam sixteen track. I can hear more punch, clarity, and fullness, but not in a great degree. I would have stayed with the...

    tascam cd-rw700

I Love my CDR-700 The CDR-700 is a great unit for the dollar. I'm glad I didn't fall for the higher dollar better quality game. I think you only get more features on the more expensive units, not quality burns. My mix downs are now hot like commercial CDs! Prior to having this unit I mixed...

    TASCAM - MS16, 1" reel to reel

Punching in on MS16 The MS16 dosn't have a jack for plugging in a punch foot pedal. The gear was made for the engineer in the control room, while the musicians do their thing. The suggestion is to play on the next track beside the bad part, and then dump to a third track. - I was used to...

    TASCAM - MS16, 1" reel to reel

Re: + 16 db I made a mistake when I said the MS16 runs at a +16 db. It runs at +4 DB. Sorry to confuse anyone here. Chuxk [Edited by Chuckschwandt on 09-28-2000 at 05:11]

    TASCAM - MS16, 1" reel to reel

Re: 1 Hi CMiller, I bought the MS16 this past weekend. It is a one inch machine. I did 1200 miles to pick it up - ughhhh. Anyhow, the owner said he has used the 499 tape on the unit for sometime. He liked it better than the 456; lower noise floor. There is also a non-shedding 499. - Has...

    TASCAM - MS16, 1" reel to reel

Re: MSR-16 The gentlemen with the MS16 specified it to be a 1" machine. It concerns me that two people in this thread have said it was a 1/2" machine. I've got to drive 10 hours to pick it up. Wouldn't that be a dissapointment for me ? wow... Chuck

Creating a hit that will hook.

Collaboration is the word. Having talented people around is definately a great asset. Having a demo pro to critique a songs is another blessing. Taxi is probably one of the best. One only needs the fortitude and patience to except constructive critcism. Learning to go back and rewrite about...

    16 track reel to reels..

1/4" vrs 1" reels Hi Paulie, Since your used to the larger tape machines, do you think there is much difference between a 1/4" vrs a 1" machine ? I'm switching from a 1/4" eight track unit and going to a 16 track 1" machine next week. I havn't heard it yet, but I'm switching for more...

    Note bending on an Acoustic

Finger Nails I've never caught a string between my finger nail and flesh, but it does sound painful. I keep my finger nails trimmed so close that it won't ever happen. Another reason I keep them trimmed back is to prevent fingerboard wear. Have you ever Finger nail grroves ? Little grooves...

The ideal rack for the gigging acoustic guitarist.

Long road to good tone When I started doing solo gigs, I despised the sound of my acoustic. After realizing that others came to the same conclusion with acoustic guitars, and recording engineers as well, I began to dig into the problem and experiment. I first bought A really good...

    Note bending on an Acoustic

Second nature I have played only acoustic guitars all my life. When I pick up an electric, I feel like I'm holding something very very different. I find that I over bend the strings on the electric, because I'm used to the acoustic tension. The acoustic always requires more push, tug and...

    Tempature and Humidity.. quick

Know your humidity rate. Acoustic guitar manufacturers reccomend 40% humidity in and around your instrument at all times. Get a guitar humidifier and drop it in the sound hole over night. If the scale shows too dry the next day, put water in the humidifier until you get the approximate 40%...

    wireless systems...

wireless advantage I think the UHF is best for bands, where groups of mics on stage don't interfere with each other. If your a soloist, the VHF will suffice. No need to spend the extra bucks if not necessary. Sonically, I don't think there is a difference. I read about this in some magazine...
