    Recording through line-out?

I've tried recording direct with an amp with disappointing results. It just doesn't sound the same, sounds real 'digital' and not much like an amp. Lots of fuzz with even a little distortion on the amp. I also heard you can really fuck up your interface if you try hooking up an amp to it, or...

    Using MSH-1A for binaural recording?

That's true, RayC about the mobility issue with the MSH-1s, although some portable recorders have phantom power but the battery life is probably crap. I was thinking of making 2 binaural recording sets...one for use in my room, and a small headphone set used for field recording, it's just the...

    Using MSH-1A for binaural recording?

That sounds good. As far as playback over loudspeakers, I've heard a lot of binaural recordings (not using the jecklin disk) that still sounded 3-dimentional. Not nearly as much as with headphones but they still had that 3-d sound. For example: "barks/0.6M©1984" on this website...

    Using MSH-1A for binaural recording?

qbert1 - That's a good idea to get a mannequin head. I still don't know what to do about the ears. After reading something on this site he says he purchased prosthetic ears for binaural recording: So I'm going to give that a try. But since I'll be using the MSH mics, the ears will...

    Plugins Suggestions

Try www.kvraudio.com ;) GlaceVerb is free and is one of the best-sounding reverbs I've used. "Room Machine" is also good if you just want ambience. MasterComp is a pretty decent compresser. As for delay, take your pick. There must be thousands of free ones all over the net.

    Noob looking for advice?

Headphones are used while tracking (recording). Monitors are used for mixing. Both are essential. I don't have any experience with the Tascam-DP01, but that package looks like a good starting kit, especially for the price, you get pretty much everything you need to get started. It doesn't have...

    Using MSH-1A for binaural recording?

The jecklin disk looks like a good, easy way to do it, but I heard that the ears are what actually makes a binaural recording sound so realistic. Maybe a jecklin disk with some prosthetic ears attached to the sides to slide the microphones into? I'm trying to not spend too much...

    Using MSH-1A for binaural recording?

After reading a lot on Binaural recording, and on the MSH-1A microphones, I figured they would work perfectly. They're omni-directional, they're small enough to fit inside a dummy head, they're inexpensive, and from what I've heard they're very accurate and detailed. I've been wanting to make...

Just tell me so I can get on with it!

Because if you did any kind of research whatsoever you would realize each person's setup is different, and it varies greatly with what instruments are being recorded, if it's multi-tracking, or single-tracking and then mixing, what genre of music it is, what the room is being used to record in...

    Recording Software

Why does it 'suck'? There's nothing wrong with Adobe Audition, at least not 1.5, which is what I'm using (don't like 2.0). It works great for multi track recording, editing wav files, etc. But if you want to get into full production, ie: MIDI, VST instruments, etc., it's not too great. I...

Yea I should have probably watched the demo first. :o Thanks

    No MIDI controller

I downloaded the demo of Reason just to mess around with it, not really sure exactly what it is or what it does. Come to find out you need a MIDI controller... I don't have one. Are there any software MIDI controllers? I've searched on Google and found MiniHost but that's a VST host, I need a...

    Bringing out lead guitar

I tried what you said with the EQ and it helped a little. Maybe I'm not doing it right or something. It's just 2 acoustic guitars, rhythm & lead.

Need Bass & Drums for a Short Acoustic Blues

Sounds good, I have to agree about the bass & drums. A bass might fill in the lower end a little more but I don't think the song needs it. Drums might sound pretty cool though. I like the sound you got out of the mic. Do you mind telling me what your setup was for this? Like which preamp and...

    Bringing out lead guitar

I know this probably isn't very practical, but I'm trying to bring the lead guitar out a little more in a song my friend & I recorded one night. It was recorded with one mic, in mono, with both of us playing. Since they are both on the same track, there's probably not anything that can be done...

    soundcard + interface

Doesn't sound like you're even using your soundcard. If everything is done with your USB interface, then you don't even need a soundcard.

    Which soundcard/interface for me?

Thanks Kevin & Bull for clearing that up for me. I'll definately need Digital I/O so I'm going to look at the delta 66. I figured the soundcard/interface would have places for me to hook up monitors/headphones. If it doesn't, is it possible to hook up monitors and headphones at the same time...

    Which soundcard/interface for me?

I was thinking of the Delta 44 or 24/96. I don't see the need for a mixer since I'll just be recording 2 tracks at once, I could just get 2 preamps, or a dual-channel preamp and a card (44 or 24/96) with 2 inputs. I was thinking the DMP3. I've heard people here say they've used it and never...

    Which soundcard/interface for me?

This is the computer I've picked out for recording. I'm going to put it together myself. Since I'm only going to be recording 2 tracks at a time, it should be fast enough. It also only totals about $500, probably around $600 with shipping and everything. This gives me some more money to spend on...

    Which soundcard/interface for me?

I'll be using it with a destkop computer. I'm building a new PC cause my old one is outdated. I'm not sure wether to go the firewire route or PCI. I'd rather go the PCI route
