    If money wasn't an issue.....

hire a top notch pro designer and construction crew to build it... keep it under $25M though so the kid's trust funds aren't too small

    Building a vocal booth

4'x5'x7' would be a good size. use a slat resonator wall to angle it and provide low-mid treatment. this design is roughly that and (in theory) you could build it to pull it apart (use rubber seals and pin hinges) by making each wall a separate assembly. in the attached sketchup file, i remove...

    trying to soundproof a room

radio shack (or some other hobbyist electronics store) will have inexpensive (say around 50 euros) sound level meters which you can use. set up a live drum and bass or a decent recording with a strong amplifier (since bass notes and drum impact are the things most likely to give you problems)...

which room for control and which for live use?

Tom has the right idea. it does depend on what you intend to do with the studio - mix more or record live bands more? if you're going to mix more, I'd use the larger room for the control room - or - if recording bands is more important, then the larger room is more comfortable for your clients...

What treatment to little room ?

if you follow Bryan's advice on the size and number of rigid-fiberglass-covered-with-cloth type absorbers, you'll be in decent shape. the rigid fiberglass (or mineral wool, rock wool - examples include 703 Corning, Roxul, etc) should be 3lb/cuft (48Kg/cu m) and you should use fireproof (or...

What treatment to little room ?

you can put diy absorbers in each corner = wall-floor wall-ceiling if need be = and overhead of the mix position is an absorber called a cloud. on each side is one to reduce side reflections, and on the back wall is one to reduce rear reflections. try to center your desk on the wall. one problem...

    trying to soundproof a room

hmmmm... more info... have you measured how much sound is getting out? you might want to do that first... as far as the windows and door - as Rod pointed out - you need mass - so building a window "plug" and a heavy door may very well help if the windows and doors are the weak points...

    My roomshape is good...

put your bed on the tall wall. it will also trap some bass behind you. otherwise, put some absorbers on the sloped wall and keep it from reflecting too much back at you. i think you're best served with my first sketch though...

New Construction for a perpetual noob

you could use a 10' ceiling and 1:1.6:2.33 as a ratio and make the room: 1.00 10.00' 1.60 16.00' 2.33 23.30' 3728 cu ft this would be big enough to use diffusion treatments - however with that many panels spaced around you will get some diffusion effects. trap the corners really well and...

    fiberglass: health vs acoustics

no, i heard smoking prevents "sand cancer" but you'll die from lung cancer or skin cancer from too much sun... best to stay in front of your computer monitor and work the discussion boards... hmmm but then you get radiation sickness and carpal tunnel syndrome and mental problems... no way to win...

    My roomshape is good...

the long sloping part is where you should face your desk, take advantage of the slope to direct the sound up and into the clouds. use the short wall to trap bass. you won't be able to get your desk under it (or maybe you can) but if you leave the desk out a bit you can add trapping there and put...

    My roomshape is good...

since the back slope is short, i wouldn't mount one there. i'd stand up a couple of the polys along the back wall or hang them. i'd put up a cloud in front of the back slope to cut the reflection back to the mix desk. since its not fully covered, the interactions with the rest of the room...

    My roomshape is good...

the fiberglass is an irritant, not a carcinogen (unless you're a lawyer) http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=35439 so covering it with cloth and proper handling is fine. the room may be too short to have effective diffusion on the back wall, and the angles on the back actually may...

    My roomshape is good...

use some cloth wrapped 703 rigid fiberglass absorbers hung on picture wire and picture hooks. for the 2' section, hang some 4" thick absorbers off the wall and floor. in the corners use 2" or 4" straddling the corners. for reflection points, clouds, and front-back wall use 2". use a drape over...

    does 2+2 = 4?

2" is a good size because you can use it for wall absorbers and double it up for corners. 1" is also useful for high frequency absorbers so if you have a need to more high frequency absorption over more mid-low, then some 1" will be useful if you can get it cheaply enough - otherwise most times...

    First post! Need advise please

its important to consider the room height as well as the length and width. let's suppose you have a ten foot ceiling. if so, the looking at optimal ratios for the room, you could build it 14 feet x 19 feet (1:1.4:1.9) which is a decent ratio (which means you'll have less problems when you go to...
