    Separate Headphone Mixes

    Well, I figured it out. :) I sent the Control Room Out to one of the four stereo channels, and then ran aux 1, 2 to input A on the Behringer (similarly aux 3, 4 to input B). Now I can have two totally separate headphone mixes. Just thought this might help anybody who's trying to do something...

    Separate Headphone Mixes

    I have an Onyx 1620 board going into my PC via firewire, and today I picked up a Behringer AMP800 mini headphone amp. I would like to set it up like so: Guitarist and Bassist are recording their tracks at the same time. Guitarist would like to hear more guitar in the mix, and bassist would like...

    Recording with a G4 powerbook (1ghz)

    I do live tracking with an iBook with a 1.33GHz processor and 1GB RAM. I don't have any problems tracking, but adding effects really puts a burden on the slow (by today's standards) G4 processor. You should be ok until you start layering on effects.

    Saved My Life

    Great song! I agree about the echo, though. I'm just not feeling it. Nice vocals and playing. What are you using for the piano sound?

    Brand new song!

    Sorry, I don't really have any suggestions, but I did want to say that I think this sounds really good! I'm using almost the same drum mic setup as you (using SP C4s as overheads instead of the NT5s) but don't get nearly that good of a sound. What kind of room are you recording the drums in?

    Just how bad is it?

    Thanks a lot! I'll consider adding a bit more overheads to the drums. I'm thinking that the crappy myspace file compression could have something to do with that, too. I'll have to experiment a little more with vocal reverb. Right now I'm just using the Lexicon Pantheon "Hit Vocal" (or something...

    Just how bad is it?

    I finished recording a quick demo CD for my brother's band. They mainly play classic rock cover songs. I just want to get some opinions on what needs to be fixed here (I'm sure there's plenty!). I can go back in and remix it (which I will most likely do later), but the tracks that are here are...

    Drum Mic Madness!!

    drBill, you are the man! :D Thanks for all the great pics. Just one more quick question: how do you have the toms panned? They sound great in the stereo image. Oh, and FWIW, I think kick drum one is much punchier than the others.

    Drum Mic Madness!!

    Thanks so much for this! The drums sound amazing! Do you know what kind they are, and what heads were used? Also, could you please post a photo or two of the room that the drums were recorded in? Thanks once again! :) This must have taken quite a while.

    Deal?.......MXL 603S for $30 at MF

    Just got mine in today. They sound pretty close to each other. I plan on using these for live drum overhead mics.

    How can I treat my room?

    After posting a few pics of my "studio" here, I was informed that maybe some bass traps would be in order, among other things. If you look at the photos, you can see that the entire surface of the walls is covered in acoustic foam. The floor is cement and is carpeted. The ceiling is regular...

    let me see your studio!

    Yes, all the foam is the same type. I'd like to add bass traps, but as it is right now, I'm pretty cramped in there with all the equipment (studio desk, bass cab, drums, guitars, shelf of misc junk). I'm going to make a thread later today with a mockup layout of my room to see if anyone has any...

    let me see your studio!

    Here's my humble home studio. When my dad had his own band, they used this space as a practice room. He insulated all the walls and covered them with acoustic paneling. This room is INCREDIBLY dead.

    Is there something wrong with my mic?

    The pads are both off, and the caps are both the same. I thought of that already. Thanks though. :D

    Is there something wrong with my mic?

    I've had a pair of Studio Projects C4s for a few years now, and recently I've noticed that one mic is about 10db quieter than the other. I don't really remember this being the case before, although I guess I may just not have noticed. Is this a problem? It seems to me that they should be within...

    What computer setup are you using?

    I'm running Sonar 7 PE on an old AMD Athlon XP system. It does pretty well, but if you are running more than 8 tracks with a fair amount of effects, the whole system grinds to a halt. Right now Intel's chips will give you a much better bang for your buck than AMD will at any price point. Try to...

    Can I Sing At All??

    I don't think it's bad at all! Take this however you wish, but I think you sound a bit like John Mayer, actually.

    Drum Test

    Thanks guys! At least now I know I'm on the right track. :D I'm not sure how things could be out of phase. I'm using the recorderman technique for overheads: one mic directly above the snare and another by the drummer's right shoulder, at approx. 45 degree angle, both at a length of two...

    Drum Test

    Thanks to everyone for the comments. I did have Sonar's "Vintage Mix" preset compression on the whole mix, so for this mp3 I took it off. I EQed the kick a bit, and I think it sounds a bit better. New mp3: http://www.box.net/shared/i4nmlg8gs8

    Drum Test

    Any other obvious improvements I could make, other than the snare? I have the overheads panned about 80% left and right, and the two toms panned about 25% left and right. Snare and kick are panned dead center. Thanks again for the replies.
