    Please Help! vocal group

Dave, I liked it. In general it is a very presentable mix. Most people will be oblivious to anything other than the songs fine presentation. If I were going to be really critical I would say that the music and the voices were recorded at 2 totally different places. Did you record the music? or...

    Deep

Really Nice Dang Dude.... I loved it. Honestly, I was prepared for some cheeze but got a full meal deal. You did a really good job. The song stands on its own to begin with but the tracking and mix were good. I am glad you did not do anything strange with the drum tracks... often when folks...

Can I Expect To Retain Audio Quality By Doing This?

If you were able to stay in the digital realm you'd be fine but there is a chance the 2 passes through the analogue stuff may degrade it. Is there any reason you just can't offload the files from one computer onto a disk or usb drive and import it direct to the laptop?

    Any opinions on SX guitars

I bought a fretless from them. The build quality was really a lot better than any import I have ever bought. The pickups don't have a really strong output, but it sounds good. It is just when I switch from the fretless to my fretted bass, there is a big volume difference.

    Another Topaz thread

T, I hope you like yours. I really enjoy mine. I had a little bit of a learning curve about routing signals through all the choices but eventually got the routing pretty good. One thing I will warn you about that will probably stump you right from the start is the Aux sends. You may already...

    Another Topaz thread

Well, I have the 24 channel version of the project 8 so I cant comment on the size of the 32. but in regard to the "tape out" I can confirm that each channel strip has a post fader direct out called "tape out". Whatever you have going into the selected channel goes out the direct tape out, but...

    Matching levels for stereo recording

Well, I guess it depends on what you are recording, but the main point to consider is when something is placed in the center of the mic array and it puts out a constant tone or volume it registers equally in both mics. If you have an amp and can set it where the center of the imge is you can...

    What mic for a VIOLA?

I'm with MS. I played Viola for many years a long time ago, but have not recorded it. I have on the other hand recorded a LOT of violin from orchestral type songs to fiddle and Celtic type songs. A lot of what makes a violin tonally difficult to record (hard nasally, bright) is not near as...

Radio Paradise - What is peace of mind was a radio and a good woman?

There is a lot of really nice stuff happening. I love the bass sound. I wish I could get my bass tracks to sit and growl like your dog does. Any pointers?

    Smaller keyboard with aftertouch

Hey guys and gals. I am not a keyboardist, but I hack a few tracks occasionally. I have a big 88 key piano action controller I want to get rid of,and replace it with a smaller 49 to ? key synth action controller with aftertouch.(I have a StudioLogic 880) The reason for the aftertouch is my...

    Recorded tracks skip

I can't imagine it is the number of tracks of audio streaming. That is more a performance characteristic of your hard drive. Assuming you have a 7200 rpm drive with close to average specs you should be flying. Normally the hit to the processor is in plug ins and software load. if you don't have...

Ribbon Figure 8 on two rack toms?

I think for miking toms using one side is best. If you want to use the ribbon as part of a mid-side room set up where you are picking up the whole kit, then using both side is needed and benefitial.

Ribbon Figure 8 on two rack toms?

Some other thoughts that may or may not come into play: If miking the toms with opposite sides of the mic: the polarity of the signal will be positive on one side and negative on the other.(I believe) mixed in with the overheads may or may not cause any strangeness as you bring them up in the...

Analog to ADAT to PC confusion

Converter wise I have a mix. I have 16 channels I/O of RME ADI-8 via lightpipe into the RME 9652 and 2 channels of Lucid 2496 I/O via SPIDF. I recently rounded out the final 8 channels of lightpipe I/O with an ADA8000 I picked up for pretty reasonably. I have to admit...it is pretty nice for...

Analog to ADAT to PC confusion

Tough Call. Both ideas are legitimate, it just depends on your workflow and what works best for you. I have the RME card in my computer and I am using the 24 channels out (through converters obviously) to mix and monitor through my Topaz. I like it due to the fact as I get older (I am 52) I...

Could anyone mix this for me?

I like Amanda's mix followed closely with Mr Clean. The others may have drums but the hiss level is too much for me.
