    Some questions about a (future) complete rig overhaul

    Miroslav, This is exactly where I am at too... I am finally taking the plunge of upgrading from a Win 98se running Samplitude 6.04. I have absolutely ADORED Samplitude over the last 10 years and was struggling on what to do about software upgrade. I am upgrading to a modern Win 7 64 bit computer...

    d00ds out there wanna recommend overhead mic stands?

    I have 3 or 4 of these and they are excellent unless you just dont have the room for them. On-Stage SB96+ Rolling Studio Boom Stand SB96PLUS B&H Photo

    Tube mics

    I still really enjoy my Studio Projects T-3 with a GE (7032?) tube swap. Makes vocals really bigger than life...which is a problem in dense mixes...but excellent on sparser acoustic mixes. Sounds great on acoustic guitar too.

    New original song, what do ya think?

    Nice! Nice song, nice performance. I am actually digging the mix with bass one side and drums and guitar spread like a live gig. A lot more like sitting near stage...heading for the dance floor...out of my way!

    Some input appreciated

    Corin: Nice but the intro of guitar only one side threw me...a vapor of it on the other side would help even if it is just miniscule. Is there Bass guitar? Drums (kick particularly) is a bit punchy for tha fact there does not seem to be a Bass guitar following in sync. Good arrangements,well...

    Getting drums at the 'back' of the mix

    If you are using samples or have recorded close miked in a sucky room, about the best you can do is work with EQ and some time based effects. Too many people don't think through their choices of tone and make everything as bright and aggressive as possible not thinking about what those auditory...

    Trident 4t channel strip and pair of m-audio solaris multi patterns cheap!

    I know Rafe (some) as he is local to me and we have had some dealings together, and he has been a pretty upstanding dude. I think he has too many irons in the fire and gets crushed timeschedule wise. I don't have his email or phone number any more, but I have to admit I often do not get alerts...

    CAD E100s

    You know...I'd be really tempted myself to get a pair of the e100 mike if they were truly the new S series. I have the old e-100 mikes and love them on Acoustic guitar and percussion, but they are a medium sized diaprham electret mic where as the new ones (S model) are large diaphram true...

    Crackling sound in studio monitors

    I think I would wouls first suspect something with the firewire connection. If you can put a cd player or another source into your mixer and playback system and it work fine that either the digital connection is problematic or ther is something electrical component wise funky in the interface...

    EQ on a bluegrass song

    nice The playing is excellent, I really like it. Over these ear buds it sounds almost hard / harsh with not much low end. I'd have to listen at home over my speakers to have a good reference. A ribbon is a good choice for mando and banjo, as an alternate a Kel HM-1 works excellent as well and...

    let me see your studio!

    Those are 2 different kits. I have like 4 kits and keep one in the booth and then a small practice kit out for band practice. I really enjoy the place. It isn't perfect but it isn't holding me back in anyway like my lack of talent is.(LOL)

    let me see your studio!

    Really nice set up! Whitestrat...WOW...really nice...I love the set up and it looks like a comfortable environment. I just made a few pics myself of mine, but I can't remember if I ever posted them. So at the risk of duplicating a post here we go.....

    Using Pro-Mark Hot Rod Sticks to record...

    I think what is happening is you are not exciting the kit quite as much so there is not a huge amount of reflected sound bouncing around being picked up by the mikes and not being exaggerated perhaps by an untreated room. I have also found playing a little less bombastic lowers the huge...

    Having problems getting started...

    Audacity may actually be working, since it recorded, but another more popular program you might like is Reaper. There actually is a forum here on thei BBS for it.

    Mid Side Decoding - Volume

    I have had that happen occasionally,even using the exact same mic combination but with different sessions. I have some theories as to why it happens , but have never had the time to prove it out. But it is along the lines of your suggested mode of thought about frequency cancellation / boost...

    P-Solo, QuadraVerb, M-EQ, SM7B, ACM70

    I'd like to have the QuadraVerb if it has the power supply and is in good shape. Hopefully shipping to Texas isn't too bad. I'll send ya a PM.

    Inherited a lot of classic home-musician gear I know zero about being an engineer.

    Don't mind me....just hangin' to see if the guy is full of gear or just full of crap.
