Brian,
By any chance is the Control Room through wall snake an ethernet type cable?
I recently added more cable connections to my drum booth via ethernet / CAT 6 type cabling and had the same exact problem.
Later found out the standard CAT cable I used through the walls was not shielded type CAT...
When I listen to post 3, it is evident the guitar is being panned to the left with a delayed signal (maybe 40-60 ms) to the (right) opposing side to give the width and side to side fatness.
I work with a Producer who uses the Slate with the modelling software.
It basically works, and gives you some change of character in a fast way.
It is ok... again... how can I say this...
If you are someone who really can live with one mic because you are tracking instrumentation elsewhere...
Has anyone been brave enough to try 2 inline boosters on the same mic?
I realize it would have to be a version that passes phantom power through the unit to downstream.
Just curious really
I record drums often, often several times a week.
The term "Phase" is a term that is a "polarity relationship" between 2 or more audio signals. (in this case anyways)
There is no way to know what that is right out of the gate because of how quickly the audio signal flips from positive to...
I think in my drum booth I have about a foot above the suspended clouds but I have almost 10 foot ceilings.
I think 5 inches is fine though as it still has sound hit the face of the panel and there is enough gap to absorb the reflected sound into the back as well.
I think my wall absorbers have...
Nice!
8 channels of 1073 is a beautiful score!
I have 4 channels of 1073 clones and I really like even the clones on everything.
8 channels would be really nice.
I assume the other stuff in the rack was pre existing? or.... hmmm?
Nice to see this thread still being alive.
I posted here way back in 2006 or so when I was building my studio next to my garage.
It has been about 15 years, and I finally took early retirement this year and have been reorganizing and fixing stuff so that I can start back working from the studio...
I had the exact same thing happen with the brand new one I got from Sweetwater.
The tubes they bought in bulk had a high failure rate that sometimes even happened after being demoed at Warm Audio.. and became bad along the way in transit.
I ended up getting a Sylvania 5751 and that low end...
To me the sound I hear is air movement like a fan or A/C rumble.
Most noises made by mics when they are defective is going to be higher frequency noise like hiss or crackle.
Issues like moisture buildup or bad caps will sound like frying eggs...LOL
The NT1A has a much broader range of...
I am with Rob on maybe finding a different object to record that gives you a believable sound rather than an ACTUAL sound... so many sound effects start there and have remained there to this day. (Fist strikes, gun shots, etc)
A second tact you might take (if your mic has a low noise floor and...
One other thing to consider when going direct, is you often are recording a huge amount of subsonic and extended low frequencies that smear your sound on playback and eat up a lot of headroom.
Try using an EQ with a High Pass Filter and set to 30-40 hz and slowly move it up towards 80-90 hz...
Good to have you!
I have found recording my playing and listening back to it in context, has been the single most eye-opening way to help me improve my musicianship and technique, besides the fun of recording and song building.
Hopefully you get good info from this site.
It has been a good...
Bob,
It sounds like you have a great start, and to be honest, it is good you want to have fun...LOL
It is a learning experience that takes time to understand, much less... get good at it (like learning any new instrument), but just be patient and try to enjoy the ride.
I know I do!
Thanks Keith,
I noticed he mentioned USB originally but then others talked about hardware solutions and Windows Limitations as well as sound cards and other things.
I guess I thought maybe he was open to a non-USB solution.
Hmmm
I am probably missing the whole issue, but with my PC I have an RME 26 channel PCI card and 26 channels of RME and Lucid converters so I can easily stream 26 channels of audio out of my computer from Reaper .
I just use the RME software which has a really nice digital mixer that lets you...
My Thoughts
I have about 20 or so stands.
I hate... absolutely hate... tripod stands due to the tripping hazard and the fact that pretty much all my stands have short booms or telescoping booms.
The long fixed booms are an annoyance as well.
I really enjoy a decent made cast round base stand...
my thoughts as well
Rob,
In regards to the SM7b.
I have to TOTALLY agree with you.
Due to all the hype I bought one 15 years ago and tried to use it... but is was ONLY useful to me in one one tracking session where I had a REALLY loud singer that it was a great match for and the energy of the...
yep
I like the Black NT1, it is a good all-rounder.
I have 3 of them!
2 of them sound close enough to use as a stereo pair (with some slight volume leveling) but one sounds very different... with a huge boost in the low end... I kept it because I could use it in front of my drum kit for a room...
