I got coolpro 2.0 nya nya nya nyanya

I think syntrillium should ditch the red rover concept and develop something more usable and comprehensive like steinberg's houston. Not that thats an ideal unit but more in the ballpark. Red rover is a toy about $80 overpriced.

    Monitor selection

Actually in terms of translatablity and overall linearity the yorkvilles are much better than the 20/20bas. The behringer's are good backyard deck speakers...

    Monitor selection

Actually I dont own the 824s. There are a couple of monitors for several hundred less that do very well against them. I had the behringers in my studio for over a month. I listened to them daily. They do not come close to the mackies. I could tell the dif bet the two double blind in any room...

    Monitor selection

Its interesting how people generally buy products at the level theyre at. The mackies are not first time monitors. They are the monitors you come to after 1 or 2 behind you when you know all the problems youve dealt with in the past. Although I think the mackies are a few hundred overpriced...

    better converters: delta1010 vs. motu2408mkIII

As I understand there is little dif bet the 1010 with an external clock and without. Thats from more than one reliable source. The internal clock on the 1010 is supposed to be a "good sounding one", an accurate low jitter clock as compared to lucid clocks and other cards. I was going to get the...

    more than monitors...

The only thing Roland does well are keyboards. They are good at making things sound synthetic. :) Not a quality you generally want in a monitor.

Folks, there you have it. Another great mindprint production (and the NTK of course.) I love the midrange/top on the mindprint. It must be a german thing bec steinberg EQs (wavelab, nuendo, cubase) have a similar quality. Dobro, lets hear some more. Im assuming all the comprerssing you did...

Worst commercial mix you've ever heard? MIX CRIMES

Funny how dif people hear things. That record is one of the most ripped off of all time. I think its one of the best sounding rock records of the last 10 years. The up front realism of the drums and vocals took the intensity to a new level. There was definitely a before and after with that...

Originality alert. Finally. After a long and mostly fruitless search. Great work, Dobro. Much respect. I would say leave CEP's reverb out of this one...itll kill the intimacy. Thats your instinct, go with it. The guitar tone is really nice. Now would be the time for you to offer up your signal...

    reverb newbie

Reverb is one of those things that separate the boy monitors from the man monitors. Among other things, imaging has alot to do with it. I find the minimus 7s great for checking reverb.

Worst commercial mix you've ever heard? MIX CRIMES

Theres a band out now called, "Pulse Ultra" who are pretty decent musically but their record "Headspace" out on Atlantic sounds like it was run through too much processing or the wrong mastering comp (T-racks??? ). Its not warm or anything, just lacks definition, like theres a cloud over...

Significant difference between Delta 66 and 1010?

What Gidge said. Ive had the 1010 for almost a year and the converters are significantly better. If youre monitoring on mediocre monitors you may not hear it but the separation and all around clarity is better. Well worth the extra money IMO. I had the omni/66 the year before that and know what...

    Primary and Secondary Temp Directories

My guess would be that using two dif drives allows CEP to work faster as the bus doesnt get clogged accessing temp files along with the basic files in your session. More bus transfer space means better streaming of your tracks from your HD. BTW, manually check your CEP temp folder and windows...

    Happy Birthday Blue Bear!

Happy Birthday. I sent out a copy Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature." Maybe that'll learn you something. :)

I got coolpro 2.0 nya nya nya nyanya

Nuendo kills every other program out there IMHO. CEP 2.0 wins second place, not bad given the $1k spread between them. Aside from layout and all around quality code, CEP wins bec of its ability to lock effects and bus FX real time which allows for many more plugs while using less CPU than...

    Blue Kiwi Cable

I use BLUE cables almost exclusively along with a couple of belden and mogami cables. If youre going from hosa, monster 100 or other cheap cable to BLUE itll almost be like the dif bet a sample rate of 32k and 44.1k--not subtle.

    KRK 6000 Monitors

If theyre anything like the 7000B, go for it. Those are passive and go for about $1k. You hear everything in an unhyped way, the soundstage is gigantic, you feel like youre in the music instead of in front of it and unlike every other KRK speaker the top end is not hyped.

    Good Mastering Software?

:D Theres enough in wavelab, steins ME plugs and waves masters and gold bundle (on their own) to do a nice job if you have a the mixing environment and monitors for it.

    Protools--->Cubase

Its not uncommon to mix a few different versions of a song and choose between them for a final version. Tell him you like his mix but want to try a dif approach on your own and compare the two. Dont make it sound like his mix sucks and hes not the pro he thinks he is. Make it sound like you...
