    drums in small room, treament?

Try recording in both rooms and see which complements the drums better. Building a couple of gobos and recording in the bigger room may work reasonably. As far as mics go, if youve spent anytime on any board you would know that the C1000s are basically worthless and will end you up with a...

    AValon 737SP and AKG414 TL-II

The 414 can be very nice on vocals, and sounds amazing on acoustic. Its star has dimmed recently, as there are many mics available for less that achieve similar results, personally, I think its still a great mic and has an openness and mid-mid clarity that I dont hear in many cheaper mics. Its...

the best mic for 200 $

The B1 is a nice mic for stuff thats not transient sensitive. Its got a unique sound that kind of improves on the 4033s notion of forward mids (except the B1s mids dont get thin)...but am I the only one to notice that its squashy on transients?

    Drums with 2 overheads

The B1s are slow on transients and are not punchy though tonally theyre detailed, fully present midrange and not scooped. They sound like the C1 does on transients...somewhat compressed. Try a pair of CAD M179s on OHs. While tonally they arent the most interesting...they are fast as hell, very...

Mackie and Yorkville only decent monitors?

Any deep bass producing speaker in a small, untreated room will sound slow on bottom. Most people I know who bought mackie monitors did so more for the accurate bass than anything else.

Mackie and Yorkville only decent monitors?

Actually, I own a pair of mackies and yorkvilles. I mixed on the yorkvilles for several months before picking up a pair of 824s. Hyped generally means that there is an illusion of clarity in a frequency range bec that range is either slightly boosted or another range is slightly scooped or...

Mackie and Yorkville only decent monitors?

The yorkvilles sound amazing and own the sub $1k range but they do not translate anywhere near as well as the mackies. They suffer from a general overhyped clarity and hyped upper mid. Youre right, NuTT, the 824s are a bit boxy compared to the yorks bec they dont have that hyped upper mid and...

Is there much difference between 500M RAM and 1 gig?

The answer is yes. For a while a resisted getting more RAM, believing what Ive read here and elsewhere that it isnt necessary. I finally upgraded from 512 to 1 gig after suffering with dropouts when the track count would start mounting. Things are now snappy where they used to be sluggish or...

Mackie and Yorkville only decent monitors?

In my experience, the V8s are brighter, place vocals a bit more out front and are drier than the the mackies, more studio monitorish in sound. The mackies are darker, have more front back depth, have the vocals placed similar to where typical speakers place them (are ever so slightly scooped)...

    DMP3 vs RNP

Whats up, Chessrock. I recall emailing you shortly after getting the RNP in the beginning of the year and saying that for the most part it was not a huge step up over the DI-port pres but alas a mix or two later I changed my mind. The depth, as in 3Dness (or lack of) and tone when distributed...

    DMP3 vs RNP

Ive had the RNP for about a year and there is no competition under $1k. Not sytek. Not Grace. Certainly not the DMP3. Any back to back test that doesnt involve at least 8 tracks is worthless IMO. The beauty of the RNP is not in the extended top end, its in the tightness and TONE of the...

    hardware vs software mixing?

The talk about summing is soooo overblown. Worry about your source quality, mic, pre, comp and AD first. I think most talk about digital summing vs. analog has alot to do with inferior mixing skills...people used to analog who havent fully acclimated themselves to the dif rules for mixing in a...
