    Drums in the cold

Thanks for the quick responses guys. It has always been a concern for me as I am a woodworker by trade and I'm pretty well versed in wood technology. Mikeh there must be thousands of guys like you doing the same thing and not just with drums but electric guitars, acoustic guitars etc. Just being...

    Drums in the cold

Any thoughts on leaving drums in sub zero temperatures. I live in Ontario Canada.I am back and forth between two houses and sometimes I'm away from my cabin for a few days without putting a fire on. I always gather up all my guitars and recording stuff if I am going to be away for any time and...

Is "Guitar Hero" Bad for Guitarists?

my 2 sons and 2 step sons (guitar hero addicts and budding guitarists) report that they are noticing their pinky (little finger) action improving. If you play guitar and then play the bass for a few hours I think you will notice the same transition difficulty. I believe that no permanent...

    i hate your kikc sound.

yes you are right, the introduction of the over clicky kick is the most diabolical of post war communist plots, now fix me one of those grain alcohol and rainwater drinks and help yourself to one:)

    i hate your kikc sound.

Dont have to look too far, just try the audix K9. No eq needed but if it sounds too snarly, just give it a bit of a kick in the bottom end.

    probably dumb mic question

I agree, especially if you are new at it. The 'recorderman' tecnique (well covered in this forum) will yield great results. The thread is a monster to read in one sitting but the first couple of pages will be all you need to get it going. Good luck

    New Drum Mics

Not too sure, but I assume that you only have to read posts once to understand them and you prob dont need a dictionary:)

    Practice kit setup.....Basic or elaborate?

Shouldnt hitting the practice pad be an enjoyable olfactory experience though??? Id like to have the choice of various scents like 'pine forest', or 'spicy indian curry' 'durian' or for the more smell oriented 'bicycle seat' ,or 'bankok traffic' etc

    Some MXL-v67g praise

very impressive. I think the snare sounds great. Makes me want to go play with my condensers as single overheads again. I did similar with a d6 and an MXL604 in omni mode and was surprised at how full the sound was. Thanks for posting.

    Practice kit setup.....Basic or elaborate?

I like the minimalist approach. I have this leather couch that has a bit of nice firm padding at the bottom, right at kick beater height. It makes a great whump sound with perfect rebound with a kick pedal. There is also a soft rubber mesh inner sole for shoes that you can put on a piece of...

It Seems I'm Cooler Than My Daughters Think.

This brings up a point that has been causing me to shake my head a bit these days. You are all prob familiar with this game called 'Guitar Hero'. My 2 sons and 2 stepsons can spend 8 hours straight on this thing, having a ball and definitely getting good at it. But I watch them and watch the...

    zany drummer

That snare space right between the legs is really prize real estate. How about tuning one of the bass drums right up to snare tension, play the bass drum with the right foot, the 'new snare' with the left foot, then you got yourself acres of space where the snare used to be to fill up with a few...

It Seems I'm Cooler Than My Daughters Think.

It is interesting to watch your kids reaction to your playing as they get older. My boys (now 13 and 11) would fool around on the guitar when they were younger, and as soon as I would sit down and try and cram 30 years of playing experience into a 2 minute lesson they would lose interest. Now...
