One more thing that may be helpful - have you read about gain staging and optimal input levels? It may be that you were running your input preamps hotter than was necessary.

Some of the percussion sounds come off a little too aggressively gated IMO. I realize that is acceptable in this genre. Whereas this tune could be very smooth, I think it adds a choppy element that doesn't quite flow optimally.

Sounds good as usual. One thing: the bass drum doesn't seem to have a lot of presence in the mix and I think in a style like this, you want to push that envelope a bit. -The upper attack - 2-6kHz and of course some nice bass drum thump to go with it.

Yeah, the Mesa reverb can't do what the fender reverb does. Put it on 10 and it's still relatively mild. It is a totally different thing. I like the Boogie EQ. It has come in handy when I play in bad rooms. You can also use it to punch through a dense mix.

It's a ice performance. Has lots of feel. I could imagine a violin playing backing tidbits, fillers, answer-backs. etc. It wouldn't have to be a violin but there is a real opportunity here. Whatever you add - it doesn't have to do too much.
