Island Hopping with Nick and Dave

We've done 11 songs, I have about 6 different snare sounds. It's a work in progress lol. The only one I really loved was on the collab with Jimistone.

Island Hopping with Nick and Dave

The song doesn't start from silence. There is a high pitched hum that starts maybe a half second before the opening drum fill. Maybe identify that and kill it off. There is something odd going on with the drum fill at 1:22. The toms sound a bit distant, and something seems to click at the end...

Looking Out On Mackinaw with Nick and Dave.

Yeah, agree with Taras - "Parted" at 1:06 is way too loud. Drums are mixed great IMO. All the tom hits are nice and full. Love the bass drum sound. Great attack and thud IMO. Don't need the fwap on a tune like this. At the very end the left channel cuts out abruptly, and before that I can...

    Remix Feedback Please?

I think the drums could be a touch louder. Everything but the snare that is. At the very end the guitar stops a little abruptly. Maybe put a fade on that. Steel string guitars are kinda barely there. I don't know if you were just using them for a pulse. Maybe they could come up, I don't know.

F TRUMP - (Highly political song) in need of mix feedback.

Haha this is hilarious. Interesting, I typically suck at hearing lyrics and I didn't have much trouble on this one. Okay I did towards the end there.

Tall Order with Nick and Dave

This sounds real nice to me man. No comments. I am totally happy with the drum sounds here.

Looking Out On Mackinaw with Nick and Dave.

I did notice a little bit of a tremble on the vocals in the previous mix. This is much better in that regard. On my ear buds the bass guitar seems a bit loud on this latest mix - it's stepping on the guitars a little. Will listen on my monitors tonight and provide more comments if necessary.

    Delilah with Nick and Dave

I've only heard this on the cans so far. Will give a more detailed listen tonight. Something is going on with this mix. The guitars and drums sound thinner than on the others. In particular the snare sounds thin. The whole mix lacks fullness, bass, lower mids. Nick sounds great. Agree with...

    Vintage Gibson Scout

I haven't even tried recording it yet. It's in bad shape. It's a coin flip if the reverb is going to work. One of the pilot lights is missing. Some of the knobs are scratchy. The name and model of the amp was written right on the steel face plate, but it is completely scuffed off. Then again...

Which mic to choose: Avant ck-7 vs at4040

I have an AT4040. I do not like it. I have used it on vocals and I currently use it as a drum overhead. It's OK for that. It does sound thin on vocals IMO. I do not know why it sells. There are better mics out there. I also have an EV RE20. That thing is incredible. I love it on vocals (female...

    Vintage Gibson Scout

Congrats on the buy! Vintage Gibson amps are generally not sought after, nor are they pricey. Given that collectors haven't gone wild on them, I think they represent a very good value relative to other amps from that era (tweeds, showman, bandmaster, etc). I have a 1961 GA-77 Vanguard sitting...

    recomendations for 2nd Mic Preamp

Putting a bunch of $$$ into preamps seems like a waste to me. I did sound on sound's blind test of pres and couldn't tell the difference between an API and an ART. With their panel doing a blind test the ART actually outperformed all sorts of pres costing 2, 3 and 4 times as much. I have an...

A collab with BroKen_H on piano "Smile"

I prefer the EV RE410. Better bass response IMO.

Gun in the Drawer - Original

Neat song. I feel like there is a ton of unused space in the mids that could be exploited here to fill things out. If you wanted.

    Penitent Man (power pop)

Nice good clean tones on everything. Good Rhythms. Some of you guys know more about mixing than I do, but I am wondering if this tune is a good candidate for ducking by using a side chain compression on the guitars triggered by the vocals. I did it recently on another mix with some success -...

A collab with BroKen_H on piano "Smile"

This is cool man. Whose idea was this? I think there might be a bit of sibilance going on in the vocals. Sometimes a de-esser at eh front of the chain AND at the back of the chain can help in this regard. Or EQ cuts in the upper registers, 4-10kHz or so.

Walk Me On the Water with Jimistone and ibleedburgundy

Love the guitar tones. Lovely right from the start. That first lead is my fave. I keep telling you to write down these settings! Love the arrangement and instrumentation. Utterly tasteful IMO. I am happy with the drums. I love this snare sound. Mix 2 in this thread. At 1:54 were...

    New Tune - Closer

I like the fuzz guitars. They fit nicely. You've got a lot of other kinda mellow timbres going and so the fuzz guitar is not fighting for space. It works. I am 6 minutes in. I feel like there could be a section without the fuzz just for contrast. That would be a great contrast. Interesting...

Walk Me On the Water with Jimistone and ibleedburgundy

This snare sound was an old wood slingerland 6.5 depth snare de-tuned to the point where the top head had wrinkles. Very unconventional but I wanted it to have some bass. I was going for that boooof sound lol. I did mess around with mixing the drums on this one. I used some minor automation...

    "Roadstar" New Drums

Sounds good to me. Real nice playing on the leads. You can fly man. I am not crazy about the drums. Nothing terrible, they're just not nearly as good as the guitars. A couple things. Some of the cymbal accents seem a bit too predictable. The cymbals themselves sound too dark and like there...
