    A remaster ... thoughts?

The second one sounds much better on my system. Smoother and rounder. I came to that conclusion prior to reading your comments. Agree - the first one is indeed more brittle.

    This City - alternative pop

Great writing great performances as always. Relative to some of your other mixes, this one sounds a bit fried on my system when I turn it up loud. Not sure if you tracked hot or what. When it first kicks in after the piano intro the whole thing seems a bit distorted. Not sure if you're hitting...

New track - missing full sound

The snare and drums seemingly have more reverb than the guitars and it makes it sound as if they are recorded in different spaces which takes away from continuity. I am wondering if a dry are sound would fit better. Also generally speaking you want to be careful with reverb on bass drums. It's...

The Guitar Tone and Mix Thread

+1 to this. That one was far superior to the other Marshall tones. I like the Mesa too. I the owner's manual for my DC-5, they say that if you are using a lower gain setting you should consider having a high presence and vice versa. I liked the last Mesa clip but I wonder what more presence...

FIRE FLIES - mix help (Stoner, Grunge, Metal)

Very good guitar playing. Vocals sound a little thin - all presence. Could use some more fullness and boom IMO. Experiment with adding low end frequencies in the 120 - 250 Hz area. Other than the rhythm guitar it seems to lack low end. The drums should have more thump to them. As is, they...

Mic preamp vst and saturation vst

Article has a dumb name haha. Oh well. It worked decently enough for me in this application. Recording attached. How to Mix In-Your-Face Rock Vocals

Mic preamp vst and saturation vst

Meh. Most of my mixes have minimal processing but I do mostly instrumentals. The best vocal chain I ever made was very complex and I followed a formula from a website. I tinkered with settings quite a bit though. In the end I had two tracks for one vocal take, each with multiple compressors and...

    Delilah with Nick and Dave

Just want to say thanks to the commenters. You guys have been a huge help. I love the ending to this song - the way it is mixed is perfect. Nice dissolve. I like where the drums sit in this mix. They are kinda back and it's a good thing. Not a drum centric song. There are a few places...

Thoughts on this? and how to regain inspiration...

I wish I had that problem. My voice just plain sucks. No ambiguity there! My range is approximately a minor third lol.

Thoughts on this? and how to regain inspiration...

Sounds good, but yeah, too many artifacts on the vocals IMO. There seems to be a click on the vocal track at :35 on the word "quiet" or just before it.

"YESTERDAY" - mix #1--final mixes for new album

Sounds really good. Very smooth playing. I am noticing the same balance issue vomitHatsteve mentioned. There just seems to be such a strong contracts between the left and right sides. I like the drum panning.

Let's throw some rock on this !

The vocals have nice fullness. So do the steel string guitars, but I am wondering if you could put an EQ cut on the guitars a little at 240Hz to get them out of the vocals' way.

Need Advice on My Rap Mix

Interesting sound. I like the uniqueness of the beat and piano. Never heard anyone use that sound. Something about the mix needs a little more glue. The reverb on the vocals is clean and sheen. The backing tracks are all lo-fi with static. -Deliberately I am thinking. But on the sound stage...

    Slight return

The parts where the guitar and vocals unify are huge. Epic. Awesome job there. Donnie had soul. Great style and flow. He brought the power.

Skynyrd tune done in a different style

Very cool man. Love the guitar tones. Great vocal performance as always. The snare is a bit too out front IMO. Maybe all the drums in general. They sound fine, but IMO a song like this needs to feature gits and vocals. Everyone else is just rhythm section. Let those guys sit farther back on...

    Revisiting old songs - Fools

This one sounds like you had arrangement issues - like most of the instruments are competing for the same sonic space.

Climb The Wall - alternative/pop/rock mix

I remember this one. There used to be a running joke around here about climbing a wall... Like the smoothness of the bass. I am not sure I do agree. I think I have heard more powerful guitars from you. These are perfectly fine though. On my system sounds like less tone? I dunno. The 3:04...

    Sometime Soon - new tune

I've tried it a few times but was only truly successful with it once. I've read about it a bunch. I watched a youtube video to figure out the best way to do it in logic. It's a good tool to have in your arsenal.

Splash of Sunny Weather with Nick and Dave

I used to always reads comments prior to putting in my own but I found that they biased what I was listening for. Then I find my self agreeing with everyone. So now I always provide my own comments after a few listens and then I read about what everyone else is hearing and see if I hear it too...
