their 1" x 2500 "master" tape is in the area of 150 bloody bucks or so for a single cake (or on reel), also I saw those being sold in packs of four only. Their damn empty reels are in the range of 30 - 70 bloody bucks ..... You gotta contact the actual seller(dealer) who you are going to buy...

on their "product" page they say it's "Precision Reel", but I would not trust that list, they could make mistake there. I'd first contact the seller/dealer who ever you are buying it from to make sure what it is.

uh, to use that volume control you also would need one of these adaptors: 1/8" Stereo Jack to 1/4" Stereo Plug Headphone Adapter - RadioShack.com and then if your headphones are only 1/4" plug, then you'd need also 1/4" female to 1/8" male adaptor as well .... Stereo Inline Adapter, 1/8" Jack...

you can try that "poor dude" method that I did while ago , also I did it for fun :) and I did wind from 10" to 7" , not from 14" , but the same idea. Place the reel on that board with cup-hub that is typically in the 10" reel box, place next to the machine and level it with the machine's reel...

i don't know anything about x-28 I have here manual for tascam 424 portastudio and it actually has high and normal speeds, so you can play "regular" stereo cassttes on it. I've made a scan of the page from the manual with illustration of tracks layout, see attached.
