I've heard of some kind of thing where you can make another disc with the same TOC on it, then switch the discs and press STOP to write the TOC to the messed up disc. You have to defeat the switch that tells it it's open though.

first verify you're getting sound from the RCA's (hook them up to something else). If you are getting sound then something with the MD8 is wrong (probably some setting). It's been a while since I used an MD8, though. I would suggest going RCA ---> 2 1/4" headphone connectors into the inputs.
