    Paying to Promote

BTW, can you tell me about your experience getting audio downsloads out via CDBaby, costs, etc.? I am doing an audiobook of my (printed) book, "How To Use The Digital Camera You Just Bought" and I am considering using them. While not a musician, I do know a bit about self-promotion. You have...

    What Mic to buy

However, it looks like this person is sitting at a desk with it all going into a PC, so my comment below may be moot. Agreed, but for a person with no real budget, some pain may be the best bet. He/she did not say how the video was to be edited, which is an important aspect.

    What Mic to buy

Try this: Electrovoice 635A http://www.electrovoice.com/product.php?id=100 That and a simple M-Audio XLR-USB interface should suffice. Check pawn shops! I found my 635A and my M-Audio XLR-USB interface each for only $29.95!

Forget my suggestion, I reread your post and it sounds way more complicated than I would know about.

Geting from Mixer to Sound Card on the cheap...

I have an old Peavy that I used for voice recordings for audiobooks, etc. I plugged the line outs (RCA plugs) into a analog to USB adpater and told my Adobe Audition to use that as a source. I have NO IDEA if this works for you, but you did say cheap, and it is.

have audiophiles taken over home recording?

how many USB mics have gain controls This is a limitation, something the do just to save money. Just like digital cameras with no optical viewfinder. But I suspect we will more and better ones. But I still question if the mic is capable of 24 bit and you jam it into a USB adapter or mic...

have audiophiles taken over home recording?

There was a fascinating guest on (USA) National Public Radio who was concerned about people who spend WAY too much time trying to find and get the "best" of everthing. One or two things that are your passion is fine, but tryng to always and at any cost get the "best" watch, replacement windows...

have audiophiles taken over home recording?

I subscribe to the Tony Maserati gear guy who says, "If it sounds right, it is right." I do radio shows, not music, so my needs are far more simple. But I do question the (sometimes) snide remarks about how ALL USB MICs are only for podcasts. So, when you plug in your analog Neumann or...

Why I don't hang around this forum much any more... :-(

If it doesn't break all the rules, try rebooting with a "live" distro CD of Puppy Linux. Runs 100% in RAM, no need to put anything on the PC and it may be faster for you.

Article: Some Things to Think about When Choosing Microphones

"It means that a mic that sounds great on one voice, one guitar, or even in one key, may sound very different on another voice, another guitar, or even in a different key." Yep. Another factor: my work almost always ends up being heard on FM or even AM radio. Anyone who has been in that...

    Anybody ever heard wire recodings?

A while back I was asked to archive some wire recordings from the early 50's. Happily, someone in the 60's had made reel-to-reel copies, as it was tough to find a wire recorder and it only lasted aboout 10 minutes before some part failed! But I was surprised at how relatively good the sound...

Recording setup for filmmaking & instruments?

I am not big into video, but when I watch the pros, they record the audio separately and add it to the video later. But they also use some kind of time code embedded in both to make sure the sync is right. In my limited case, I needed to record some video interviews and the org had NO video...

dont't know what the F i am doin

basics I am assuming you want to record voicework, NOT bands? If so, read on: I did 30-odd years in news and music radio, and it is a differerent thing than being a recording music engineer. Think simple! You need a decent mic, a way to get it in a PC and a simple editing program. Mic...

Process of elimination is a real pain when isolating hum. Could there be some RF leaking in from the PC? Have you tried plugging some gear into another outlet (mains)?
