Do you HAVE to record drums first?

Funny you should mention that - I was going to say that with somebody like you Rami, who records all the parts himself - it's easier to sound natural when you multitrack b/c you know internally where the pulse is and have an idea of where you want to accent and flow.

Do you HAVE to record drums first?

I've done many sessions this way. As long as the rest of the instruments are tight with the click and the drummer listens to what the song needs, it will work out fine. It often depends on how important drums are to the song. However, there is a certain kind of magic that happens when you play...

    Shoot, here we go again...

Well Supercreep summed it all up for you in the post above. For the type of music and reverbs you describe, I'd say go for the Rumour. The Lexicon is great for a ton of things, but the Rumour has a depth and space to it that really lends itself well to electronic music.

    Home Studio Equipment

It's not easy being green, is it?:D Anyway, let's start with the very basics. A musician needs to have an instrument to play and know how to play that instrument well enough to record. Let's start here. ;)

    Vocal effects on live performances?

For your situation I would suggest you look into products by TC Electronic and Digitech. Both make products YOU control from the stage: http://www.tc-helicon.com/VoiceLive http://www.digitech.com/products/Vocalist_Live2/

    Picking Up Radio Signal ?

Even though your radio is off, the signal is still being broadcast through the "invisible airwaves". My guess is the cable you were using from your bass to your guitar amp was acting as an antennae. Sometimes unshielded cables in headphones could cause this too.

    overhead technique

I say A LOT depends on the drummer AND room dimensions - especially ceiling height. Also depends on the type of mics and the pick up pattern... Also depends on how many other mics will be used AND the sound engineer's abilities. So you really HAVE to experiment. I highly suggest you try ORTF...

    Hit the damn things......

Agreed. I got a lot of work just for being consistent. I really like to take full advantage of every drum and cymbal. For snare- slam that backbeat in the center, ghost a bit off to the side. There are literally thousands of sounds I can get out of my ride. The bass drum can be ghost pulse or...

I need a "BOOST" on my leads.

Sounds like you're a purist and want to keep it that way so there are a few I suggest - all depends on your budget. I use Fulltone pedals: http://www.fulltone.com The fat boost is cool but really many of his pedals will do you just fine - like an OCD or even a Fulldrive 2. Also check out the...

    Tuning A Snare For Recording??

I listened to the first 20 seconds of both clips. I agree with hoops and ectronic the snare sounds fine for the track. The studio mix sounds like it has more room or reverb to it, but both mixes still work, it's just a matter of preference.

    Should I get an SM7?

Should you get an SM7? Yes. It's a great mic for vocals. However, you'll need a good amount of gain to get it hot enough for vocals. Also why it would feedback more in a live situation, and why I wouldn't use it on stage. It's also important to consider that an SM7 through a Mackie board is a...

    Smoothest sounding reverb

I was going to suggest the Rmour too, but since you already have that covered with the K2600, then Lexicon would be the way to go. Maybe what you need to do is get into the EQ section of the reverb and roll off the highs. There was a unique Yamaha unit about 10 years back that had good presets...

    Head Replacement

When it sounds lifeless, flat, dead, has deep dents (some call them digs) but mostly when it sounds like crap no matter how you try to tune it. Usually when you have to ask this question it means it's probably overdue. So my suggestion to you is go out and get yourself BOTH a batter and reso...

Someone tell me about there SG

Mine's the shizzle My Gibson SG is a 1980 SG RD1 and the neck on this baby is very similar to the neck on ES-335. I think Gibson guitars made from '79 to '81 were slightly bigger than any other year - just perfect for bigger fingers like mine. My guitar is all black, NO pickguard, with an...

Acoustic Pickups: is it just me? WTF???

Those sound files don't sound all that great to my ears either. i personally HATE the quack of Piezo - especially on hard strumming - and have been on a similar quest. The CLOSEST I've heard so far is an L.R.Baggs through a Para DI. http://www.lrbaggs.com/html/products/products_pickups.shtml...

The Importance of and Techniques of Room Mics

PhilGood said there should be a thread about this - so here goes- a thread dedicated to "the importance of and techniques of room mics" Lemme get things started: The ROOM- is one of the most important factors of your over all drum sound. There are a myriad techniques for recording drums but...

    Tuning A Snare For Recording??

Also try tuning and damping your snare to match the song you're recording. Consider the key of the song as well as the type of music. Once that's worked out, then start messing with mic placement. For close miking, I like to start with a three-finger distance from the snare. Sometimes it's...
