    Pearl export series bearing edge

I'm pretty sure they're 45 degrees. I'll check a little later when I have some time.

    Live synth

Yeah, I get that, but does the keyboard have to be plugged in, or is it possible to save its definitions onto the computer?

    Live synth

OK thanks. I think what had confused me in the past was that I thought it was making the audio by a sort of algorithm, and a 'piano' sound would have a certain algorithm to calculate what each note would sound like. So I thought when sending midi, you could send the note, the velocity, and also...

    Live synth

Yes, so are the knobs changing the sound of wave samples, or of the midi sounds? Sorry, just referred back to your post before and you said that "they use raw waveforms and mess with em to get them right". And I was refering to when you said So what's coming from the line output of the...

    Live synth

Thanks. So are you saying none of the keyboard is audio (wave) based? I was under the impression it was. Also, when transmitting midi, you mean from the midi output right? And that would be defining the pitch, and velocity, but not the actual timbre right?

    Live synth

I guess that leaves me with the Yammy :-P Looking at it, it does seem like the right choice. Just a couple of questions: I can't load my own sounds onto it can I? Seems to only be ROM. Is it possible to export midi sounds? I don't know anything about this, but I know some keyboards can export...

    Live synth

Could you expand on that? It does seem a little cheesy and toyish, but as long as it's usable and has good sound, I'm not too fussed by the IDEA of it. Are you saying it isn't usable and/or doesn't have good sound?

Thanks guys... hard to find used stuff here in Aus. Also, would like the comfort of warranty. Alesis is out of the price range (at least here). The SH-201 may have all we need, but haven't tested it, and the layout is quite different from standard. I think the way it's organised although it...

    Live synth

Could someone recommend a cheap synth keyboard for me? I saw the microKORG, which seemed cool, except for the max 4 polyphony. I've now looked at the Roland SH-201, which seems more like what I want, but seems a bit basic? All I need is the actual synth sound, and the keys to play it on, and...

    Ymaha MSR 400

Looking into Yamaha MSR400's, and noticed in the specs, that really, they run at 225+75 = 300 W They state that the power consumption of the amplifier is 110W though. Does anyone know what this means? I was fairly certain that the speaker would be 300/400 (whichever) watts RMS, and I hope...

    Renting out a snare drum?

Whatever you felt wouldn't be a rip off but wouldn't be timewasting. Just make sure you get some sort of insurance, like a $300 deposit which you can give back WHEN it comes back undamaged. Maybe charge the price of two new heads + a little extra?

    Drum amplification

Yeah I was also hoping to either borrow a loop pedal (or use a laptop) to make loops of drums to play over, and build some layers. Delay could be really fun though, especially with woodblocks/cowbells and extra percussion. Shit man, I came to the drums and percussion section assuming people...

    Tempo Machine

Yeah totally agreed! Sometimes a click track might be necessary, but it's not entirely important. Often, the feel comes from tempo changes. As long as the drummer doesn't go totally off, then leading without a click can be great, as long as the drummer IS LEADING (like you said) - the drummer...

    Drum amplification

Just interested to know if anyone's made a little PA setup JUST for drums? I've got a mic setup and mixer, and will soon be beginning to buy some powered speakers. I'm gonna start off with a Yamaha MSR-400, which I'll also be using for vox in my band. But hopefully I can get a couple, and one...

    I like your thinking :-P

Low cost "Drum Mic Sets" - which one is best?

Well I'm sure the shures are gonna be among the best, but also the most expensive, and as with some of the others, they don't include any overheads! So they're in a bit of a different league to the others I think. I'd go the Shures with a decent pair of overheads, but that may end up being...

    Improving muddy vocals

Yeah I think the NX-9s are better suited to use as overheads (which I bought them for). I think I need a mic with a bit more bottom end, so I assume these have quite a big cut at the bass end. I've done a bit of fiddling with all the tracks, and I'm getting better results from spending more...

Shure KSM27 or SM57 for recording bass?

As true as this is, watch out for fakes, particularly on eBay, as you may have read in many places.

    Improving muddy vocals

Thanks heaps guys. Mics: I've always kinda assumed the condenser would be the best bet, but (to answer Myriad) I record drums, so I have a bunch of dynamics that I can use (and in fact HAVE used in the past). I'll have a listen to the tracks I've recorded with dynamics in the past - they will...

    Sm57 vs Audix i5

Haven't read the whole thread, but from this point, I'd say use the i5. If you're worried about being tough, then unless you're ACTUALLY using them as hammers, the metal cases are not gonna break. What you need to be worried about are the grilles, and the i5's is sturdy metal, the SM57's is weak...
