    DP-24 - I love it (so far)

I just did the upgrade to the new firmware, and sure enough, EQ settings are NOT saved. Sent message to Tascam support via their website, and got a message back that they're all at NAMM this weekend. I reverted back to the previous firmware version which works fine (well, except for the stuff...

Suggestion to all of the gurus answering n00b questions

That pedantism is alive and flourishing on the internet should come as no surprise. I avoid a few different forums for just that reason. Like the saying goes, "ask an engineer what time it is, and he'll tell you how to build a watch".

    DP-24 question

I don't believe that option exists ... I would use a card reader ... simply take a DP-24 formatted SD card and copy your 2488 WAVs into the AudioDepot folder on the SD card, and import into your DP-24 from there.

    DP-24 arrived today!

I'm a dinosaur ... been the computer recording route, and while I got decent results, it was just too much of PITA, replacing my obsolete PC is an expense I didn't want to incur, and I've gone back to a MTR. I'll probably use it just for tracking, maybe mastering ... but I'll mix on the...

    Connecting mixer with interface ?

Your analog mixer should have an 1/4" "insert" for each channel. You'll only use the "send", since nothing will be returned. For each channel run a cable from the insert to the input on the interface. A snake helps here. The insert is pre-fader, so you'd have to mix it in the DAW as well as...

What is a virtual instrument? What is a DAW? What is a....

There are many helpful people here, but there's a limit ... learning by asking is one thing, asking to be spoon fed is another. I thought my reply rather helpful, actually, because the OP would likely find a lot of stuff he never even thought to ask ... yet.

You have a computer with internet access ... use google. Why would anyone take the time to explain this stuff to you?

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

I paid $125 shipped, new. Works great. Picked up a Presonus FaderPort last night, and that's working just fine with Reaper, too. Was up tracking a few songs last night, and I'm very happy with the whole affair. Finally. Now back to what I love ... making (not recording) music!

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

I said I'd report back when I got my M-Audio Delta 44 ... it arrived around 12:30 EDT (it's 2:12 now). Installed the card in the PC in about five minutes. Downloaded and installed the Win7 x64 driver in about five minutes. Made the cable connections (ins/outs/phones/monitors) in another five...

Is it common copy pasting parts recorded songs?

Just one old guy's opinion ... make it right when you track it. Fixing a performance in the mix is what one does when one can't really perform it. In which case, why record it?

    DP-008 Question

Not at all sure why you'd connect the PG58 via a 1/4" connector. Use the XLR. Put your guitar into the input1 1/4" jack, set the switch to guitar. Connect the mic via XLR to the input2 XLR jack.

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

Thanks. Yes, that's what I was looking for. I've ordered a Delta 44 and will see how that goes.

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

@bouldersoundguy ... I hope you didn't think I was getting smart with you, I was honestly trying to clarify in case I was misunderstood. Probably managed to confuse myself in the process! I've been using a MTR for the past three years or so, and transferring the files to the DAW after...

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

Nope. Actually, I get it. Really. I don't think I've made myself clear, or at least, I haven't done so to you. Right. if I was recording a band in many simultaneous tracks, I could route everything in the analog mixer and monitor there. I get it. And I do it.

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

I'm not sure I've made myself clear. If I simply wanted to monitor the input it would be no issue. But I want the input, as well as the already recorded other tracks. I don't see how hardware monitoring gets me that. Is that clearer? I'm not recording a band, I'm building songs track by...

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

I think the computer is up to the task ... AMD Athlon II x2 at 2.70 GHz with 6 gb RAM, Win7 Home Premium x64 SP1, 750 gb system drive, 1 tb external eSATA 7200rpm drive. And yes, I would route the monitor back to the analog mixer. But ... I not only want to hear what I'm currently tracking (I...

PCI interfaces and my ignorance of 'em!

My needs are simple. I want to go from my analog mixer into Reaper. I want to be able to monitor previously recorded tracks (no more than 3 or four, I don't need 'em all usually) as I record a new track. I do most of my effects (compression, EQ, and reverb and not much else) in the analog...

    Shure SM57?

If I could own only one mic (god forbid!) it would likely be a SM57. Works well for anything from vocals to drums.
