    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

mrx, That right there would most diffinately give the Zoom the upper hand, having user adjustable EQ, this is a necesity!! I'm sure Carl will agree, when he really starts getting into it. I would not be able to live with preset EQ settings. The MR-8 would necesitate at least plugin EQ...

Drum machines: How close can you get?

Honesty is the best policy, but OUCH. Jake does not speak with forked tounge. I have to say this though. I have both, the Zoom 123, and the Alesis SR-16. The Zoom blows the Alesis away, especially the cymbals, and high hats. The Alesis, should have been gone a long time ago! I would...

    Zoom MRT3 - Need advice

Hey Carl, Must be kind of a funky feel, using a foot switch for a kick drum pedal? Is the foot switch velocity sensitive, or one volume? Agree the bass lines are best left, just for fun, although they aren't really too bad. GT

    Zoom MRT3 - Need advice

Tom, I have the Zoom 123, I think it's my fovorite of the whole line, simply because the pads are laid out much closer together. This means you can hit two pads at the same time, with one finger. From what I've heard, I think most of the samples are the same, on all the Zoom machines. Carl...

    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

Now I remember why I added a volume control to the headphone out, the volume on the Zoom 123, adjusts both headphone, and main out volume. This way I can leave the heaphone out hooked to the MRS-4's aux in, and turn the volume off, without turning the main output off. Like I said this way, no...

    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

ballisa, Right on, I grew up with a great big Teac 15" reel to reel four track. I don't miss it at all. Especially the hiss, and flutter when I would record my acoustic. Your right about the headphone volume control on the 123, but I know I put that volume control in for a reason. Let me...

    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

Hey Carl that's exactly how I've got my 123 hooked up. Here's a little trick I came up with to avoid having to unplug and plug, when your ready to record your drums. Use the headphone output on your drum machine, to the aux in on the MRS-4. This can be left permanent. Hear's something I...

Can you eat a large diaphram mic?

Re: Re: Can you eat a large diaphram mic? Yeah but, I would think through the magic of physics, that the larger the diaphram the larger the proximity effect, yes? Hense, even more bass rolloff EQ would be needed? GT

    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

Good point, With my MRS-4, I use a four Channel Fostex digital mixer for drums, and mic, as the MRS-4 has only two recordable inputs. The aux in is strictly just for listening, you can not record from aux in. I assumed Carl knows about very limited recordable inputs on the Zoom (two), and...

    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

LOL!!! This thread took a turn for the funny. Carl, I hope you learned your lesson, never mess with the Fostex people, they're too busy making music. Zoom people ROCK, and or roll!! Have a great time with your new toy. If you have any more questions when you get it, I'll be glad to help...

    Mister Fostex vs Missus Zoom

Re: Hey, GT! Hey Carl, First off the Zoom uses 32/16 bit, instead of the standard 44.1/16 bit. Like I said before this is a trade off that buys you more recording time per memory card. To download into computer you use Zooms free Card Manager software. When you upload into the computer...

Can you eat a large diaphram mic?

Please don't laugh. I'm using a Electro Voice Cobalt C0-9, running through a Fostex VM0-4 digital mixer, the Fostex also provides the EQ for the mic. I use -8db on the bass, and +4 on the high end. Not sure what the shelving is for the bass and treble. Anyway I think it sounds pretty good...

    Zoom MRS-4 vs. Fostex MR-8

Hey Carl, You peaked my interest, so I tried recording a single guitar part to two mono channels panned hard left, and right. Then during playback, moved the two sliders up and down, worked great, this might even be a better effect than a single pan control, actually sounded more human, if...

    Zoom MRS-4 vs. Fostex MR-8

Carl, 20 seconds from hard left to right is correct. There is no way to program pan sweeps. I usually pick a pan point and leave it there, never got into pan sweeps, so for me pan speed was never an issue. The only thing I can think of that would acheive this on the Zoom, would be to...

Can you eat a large diaphram mic?

I think I'll just stick with what I have, maybe the grass isn't greener. Could it be that a dynamic mic is really the only way to go, for mouth to grill recording? I'm not that thrilled about changing a thing in my recording studio, it is what it is noise wise. Yet noise is not a problem...
