Can anyone identify anything from this pic?

It's a fast changing world, that's for sure... I'm still trying to get a handle on it all, but it's a fascinating business that's for sure. I don't seem to have enough hours in the day to cover all the learning - instruments, recording, mixing, gear, etc - all good fun though. And thanks so...

Can anyone identify anything from this pic?

Geez, that was a good score. Where's the envy icon when you need it? It's a great way to learn. Not only do you get a good idea of how a pro put something together, but with those older recordings you can actually change some things for the better with modern software. I didn't expect that...

Can anyone identify anything from this pic?

Queen fan? Did you get these? You can download 9 original stem tracks for Queen's song Don't Stop Me Now. Apparently it was for a re-mixing competition, but it's a great opportunity to drop them into whatever DAW you use and experiment. I took them to a friend's studio and was duly amazed at how...

Will I ever be able to sing this?

If you can't quite make it then there's always the option of changing the key so that you can. Just transpose it down a tone or two into a key that's more comfortable for you. The usual issue isn't so much what the top note is (unless you simply want to sing along with the original performance)...

    What if my voice sucks?

The answer is yes, or rather a string of yesses. Leaving aside the debate about how good you could get, there's a very good chance that you could drag yourself up to a basic demo level. The range of processing that you can do to vocals is astonishing - from timing and pitch correction through...

Help with affordable sound treatment for 10x10ft

Here's part of my attic. Messy, and facing the wrong way across the room too... so lots to improve. Looks like we have similar taste in monitors though..;) [EDIT: I think we might find some useful information here... but a packed lunch and a lot of patience will be required... SOS Studio...

Help with affordable sound treatment for 10x10ft

Me too. :) It's hard to know exactly what you're achieving at the start, because you may be improving things at one frequency at the expense of another. Bass seems to be notoriously difficult to tame and get balanced right, because those low frequencies can cut through so many materials. So...

    I'm not deep.

That pretty much nails it. The best way to become half way decent at lyric writing is to treat it like acquiring any other skill. It can help to read a bit about lyric writing, but you can learn just as much by simply reading lots of lyrics that made it to recording and see how they did it. So...

How Many Guitars do you own

Exactly. :) It has been proved scientifically by one of the best in the business too. Perhaps he ran a guitar shop on the side?...

How Many Guitars do you own

    12. If I get more than that I tend to sell one. When you start adding up all the possible options it's not many though. Basses, 12 strings, classical, nylon and steel strings, acoustics and acoustic/electrics, hollow, semi-hollow, solid, etc. Then you have various body styles and weights such...

Do you know the note names on the fretboard?

Hi, I've never really seen a lot of point to learning all the names of the fretboard positions. I do pick up some of them along the way when and if there is actually a reason to know them, but otherwise I don't bother. It takes only a second or two to count from a known one if I really needed...

G'day mate, Thanks for your message, which I only just discovered. Still getting the hang of how this site works. I haven't been to Eden Hill for a while (unless you count passing through on the way to Kosmic in Osborne Park to ogle yet more gear...) but I very nearly bought a house there 30...

Can anyone identify anything from this pic?

The mic in the middle looks like a Neumann. That might even be a lagerphone on top of a tambourine on the chair there too, although it could be an inferior version with bells on. Short session 4x6pack lagerphone

Can anyone identify anything from this pic?

Thanks for the generous offer, I'll try and take you up on that. Next Friday sounds good. Which venue? Mundaring Hotel, Weir Hotel, Bowls Club or...?? For the fans of "Aussie gossip", I was going to re-organise my very primitive 'studio' space yesterday (vaguely on topic...) - but here's what...

Can anyone identify anything from this pic?

Wow! :D Thanks for those links Alan. Terrific playing and very impressive instruments. I couldn't help thinking "Geez, he looks a lot like Tim W..".. but then Google tells me that they're brothers, so that would explain it.... I've enjoyed looking at the pics of your studio down...

Can anyone help me with my mic? :-(

It is recording in mono, just not the way you want it to. Assuming that you have a regular type of microphone it will output a mono signal. If that's the case then the double 'stereo' tracks in picture 1 will be the same mono track recorded on both tracks. That is not the same as proper stereo...

Can anyone help me with my mic? :-(

Hi, That sounds very frustrating. All the tracks that you've pictured in Audacity are stereo tracks - even if what you actually got was just two copies of the same mono signal. In my (admittedly old copy) version of Audacity, you should be choosing Tracks/Add New/Audio Track (not Stereo...

Thank you Alan! :) I've been staring at the thing trying to dredge up the name. I couldn't get past "Mellotron" which I knew wasn't right. It looks like the third one down on this page Harmoniums If you click on the small pic on the left a much bigger and better one comes up. It looks very...
