could be capacitors, do a visual inspection, also for potential broken parts unsoldered. These parts are old now, they may have been modified or gone through some abuse. Spare cards for that machine can be found for $50 on the net. If you have a scope, trace the signal path.

thanks for the advice, so i have a 16 track and 8 track recorders. They dont necesarily need to be connected at the same time, but at least for the 16 track, plus effects, i would say a 24 channel is the minimum that i want to get, i currently have a mackie 16-8 where i am finding limitations...

There is a local deal on a Soundcraft Series 2 32 channel. It has one bad channel and bus subgroup 1 & 2 not working. I can't find a service manual online. Does anyone knows if this console is fixable ? or is it all proprietary ICs ? i wonder if anyone has experience with this one around...

make sure the tracks are armed on the track control panel. If they are not, those LEDs will never turn red.

it depends if it is a one off project. If it is not i prefer to own my own stuff :) but that is just me. You can move up to a 1" machine if you need 16 tracks. (Tascam MS16) or an 8 track machine 1/2" tape.

Look at the picture, #7 (collar bearing) should come out when you remove the pinch roller. Do you have it ?

some ideas: 1) Any misalignment in the headblock (unlikely) 2) Check that the pinch roller doesn't wobble. Take a close look at it when turning 3) One possibility is that the pinch roller arm is slightly bent or has play, so you have a pinch roller that engages the capstan not fully flat 4)...

you need the scope for accurate azimuth calibration.

in my opinion, for 8 track, 1/2" is the way to go. I personally don't like the 1/4" - 8 track fromat and machines which is basically the tascam 388 and the fostex machines. If you really want to go that way, i'd go with the 388. The 1/2" machines are superior in anyway that you can think...

ok, so based on what you describe, you have a tension adjustment problem. The capstan should speed up in stop and slow down in play, not the other way around, in case your tension is too high. Follow the manual to adjust the tension in play mode that should get you there. When the machine...
