    Tascam MS-16/ATR 60-16 tape lifters.

what tape are you using ? try a different roll to see if the behavior changes, i remember using one roll of 499 that was kind of shedding and deformed that amplified the issue

Re-mastering / Repairing an old recording

sounds like the reeel to reel machine that you used for transferring the tape may not have been calibrated. Or the worst case, the original recording was made in an out of calibration machine.

    quantegy-online purchase

yeah, like month ago i put an order for 406 1" too. I had to file a paypal dispute and got my money back. They never even replied to the paypal dispute, so that site is a ghost for sure. About 4 months ago i exchanged some emails with peter hutt about new GP9 in partnership with ATR and at...

TASCAM 8516 hubs and TASCAM TZ-65 clampers

i did adapt the ones from the MSR24 which are also different into my MS16. Can you take pictures of the top and bottom of the 8516 hubs ? to find out the fitting and how to adapt it. Check my MS16 restoration pictures: some pics show the hub mod...

    Tascam MS-16/ATR 60-16 tape lifters.

usually their are pressure fitted. the challenge is to clamp and rotate them without scratching them and without bending them. Which is tough, i've done it in the TSR-8 with success, but is a risky operation. You need a strong vise big enough to cover the length of the lifter that should be...

    ATR on an 80-8

by the way, the sources that you sent me for NOS 406 are all dead. so i'm still looking for 1" 406 NOS in case anyone knows where to get it. On a side note, does anyone knows of a mod for the TSR8 to go +9 ?

    ATR on an 80-8

yes it is different. I guess i did not asked the question correctly. So what i meant was, if there is higher noise floor or any other effect if you are operating +9 tape on a +6 biases machine. I understand that for sure you won't get any of the extra benefits, but vs. 456 on the same deck...

    ATR on an 80-8

what happens if you use +9 tape or ATR on a deck setup for +6 ? will you get dull frequency response or some specific color ?

What Fluke Multimeter should I get?

What's important is the BANDWIDTH of the meter in AC mode besides being TrueRMS. You need also to cover up to 20Khz, which most DMMs don't do. You need to use a meter with HF or high bandwidth capabilities, the Agilent above is a good example. A good value is the Leader LMV181 of 185, you...

Problem w/ Tascam 48 speeding up

if you can grab a tentelometer off ebay. Too high of a tape tension will wear out your heads.

    Tascam ATR60-16 with extras $650

that is a great deal. if i was closer i'd take it on a heartbeat, even if it is broken. It is the improved MS16, metal clampers, there is bunch of quantegy tape as i see on the pic, which may be in decent condition

    85-16 Hub Adapters for MS-16?

i also adapted hubs from the MSR24 to use in one of my MS16s. I had to go to a local machine shop to shave them with a lathe and make them fit. However those MSR24 hubs are also very hard to find, but if you find them they will be cheaper. I think i have a thread somewhere on the adaptation...

    85-16 Hub Adapters for MS-16?

they should work, but you can also repair them using a regular tascam 1/4" hub. disassemble it and the top is the same part that usually breaks, so you can buy a cheaper one for 1/4" tape and replace just the top in your 1"1 hub.

Finally the AQ-65 is here :)

After years of looking for a decent one, i finally found an AQ-65 for my MS16 machine. Thanks to a very nice member of this forum that sold it to me :) Now i am trying to improvise a roll around cart for it. Like the original Tascam CS-64 that was designed for it. Any ideas on what to use...
