NAB and IEC are two types of equalization. That means that both the playback and record circuit in the machine need to have that curve in order to record and playback properly. Some machines are switchable. The MS16 is not one of them.

For that machine and tape described, get the MRL 441-673-482-102. That is 15 ups, IEC, 250nwb/m Which is the factory settings for that machine. The MS16 supports only IEC if i am not wrong, according to the manual.

i was wrong here, i was referring to the tascam ES-50 instead of IF-1000

that will be picture #1 but you also need the Tascam IF-1000 for that, and it will work, and yes the MS16 you can control capstan speed through a pin on that connector for a synchronizer

I'm happy, i found the problem :) I traced the spool motor control signal and found a bad OP-AMP (NE-5532). There was no output change even when the input was changing. IC11 on the transport control board, Replaced it and voila. It's working now. How did that happen ? good question, but...
