what type of raid do you have? is it hardware or software raid? it doesn't make any sense that a hardware raid would screw up a workstation because video workstations practically depend on raid... software raid on the otherhand I could definatly see giving issues... possibly onboard raid...

though I will admit to being one of the people trying to get to 0dB this makes perfect sense... because a 24bit signal has a 144dB dynamic range... and pushing preamps always adds noise and distortion... so by recording softer you get a cleaner signal... even a 16bit signal has 96dB to work with...

converting a mono track to a sterio track is called panning. everybody records everything in mono... generally... a mic is mono... if you record with two mics then you record them mono and pan them.

you're having dropouts... not jitter... are you recording to the same physical disk as the OS? (partitioning won't help performance)
