Some kind of rustle sound problems with my Rode videomic go

To me it sounds like two problems. First, the low frequency wind noise which should be significantly reduced by the dead cat... and a second problem that to me sounds like a bad connection causing the static. I think I've also heard similar sounds from low batteries powering shotgun mics ...

Is this laptop worth an ything for recording?

It's better than mine. - though I'm running Arch Linux. MAYBE... I would put a solid state drive in if it doesn't already have one... since it's a fresh install anyway..

Best "visual feedback" workflow for overdubbing?

I think what you want is a very complex issue but I think Adobe Premier can do it. Basically you would be recording a camera feed to the computer with sync audio which should be no problem. (I am NOT an Adobe user so this is all generalizations and things I think happen :) ) However you also...

I need some help for my drummer

I would suggest having her practice to commercial recordings. Thats how I was taught when I was a kid... my instructor would have me play to some blues/jazz/bigband record and then write out a line of the basic rhythm for syncopation.

What are these things behind homeplate?

The use of a omni is because the mic has to be placed in a specific place... the focal point of the parabolic. the sound hits the dish and is reflected to the focal point. So the mic needs to be able to adequately pick up sound from every angle of the dish.

What are these things behind homeplate?

Those are parabolic microphones. Extremely directional but have poor frequency response unless they are large. They are very common in sports, surveillance and wildlife recording. They are basically an omni mic in the hot spot of a parabolic dish.

What is the best, most affordable recording gear I can buy?

For a solo professional the minimum is going to be Sound Devices. I usually end up using whatever recorder the production company owns which is almost always a Sound Devices 302 going into a camera... Once I used a Wendt X5 and it worked well though not nearly as much gain and the headphone...

do i need internet for the alessis multimix8 firewire

One of the things to keep in mind about keeping the studio PC offline is that you dont have to actually do anything to get infected... a lot of the botnets automatically scan ip ranges and do port scans looking for vulnerable computers. The main problem was that Microsoft would only do updates...

any thoughts on this Music Video? :)

I dont have sound on but generally it looks pretty good. I would suggest trying some shake reduction in the edit. Also it seemed like the auto-iris was on in a couple takes.

Trouble with Apogee Duet - Any Help?

Just a quick guess but it's vaguely similar to an under-powered microphone. I do a lot of video and film production and many shotgun microphones are battery powered... if the battery is going dead it can make some noises that sound like wind. So I can imagine if the phantom power supply is...

    Budget camera?

in the sub $500 range, if you have a camera... any camera... I would get lighting. A good reflector kit, stand and reflector holder and sandbags (to keep the stand from falling over) can be had for about $200. and lighting holds it's value a lot longer than a camera will and will provide a...

    Handel's Lascia ch'io pianga

I've watched a couple of your videos and though I'm not sure who is doing what as far as camera operating and editing I can safely say that quality is improving with each one. I do have some suggestions. 1. White balance! Most of the outdoor shots in this video have a blue tint to them...

DAW - LMMS - Time to move on?

I've been using linux for audio and video for a few years and am currently running Arch. I've never used LMMS myself though as I mostly use Ardour and have reciently started experimenting with SuperCollider. If you're not on linux I don't really have any suggestions as to alternate programs...

high end soundcard for high speed A/D

That sounds like a coil problem... or a distributor pickup unit issue (whole distributer maybe) ... does it shut off while driving? anyway... being a home recording forums... and me being a home recordist... I would farm it out... PC power is cheap... just get 10 800mhz PCs going with delta...
