Ha ha! Thanks, TAE - it's always been me and the missus's favourite christmas song, so when Armistice suggested it as a possible cover we jumped at the chance. :D
I noted a comment somewhere in this thread that you shouldn't EQ monitors to compensate for a bad room. That said, many reputable manufacturers put "room control" cut and boost switches on the back of their monitors for that very purpose.
Any thoughts?
I don't know what to say about the snare other than I gate it so that I can EQ it strongly without affecting the hats. I use a very strong hi shelf from about 5 k upwards and I also put a peak in at 7.5k. I scoop it at around 3-400Hz and put a boost at 100Hz for the punch. All Frank's snares are...
Thanks, Jimi, great comments. :)
I've been recording drums in the same space with the same setup for about a year and a half. What has changed recently is that I rearranged my space in the tiny room I record in, so as to get a proper studio desk in. The kit got moved around to the corner...
This is an original song by his college band. I was sent a stereo wav file of his band's demo minus the MIDI drums. This is a mix of the original file plus real drums recorded by Frank and myself.
Comments welcome, especially to do with the drum recording/production...
Thanks, Sloop - you're absolutely right, by the way. The snare was just getting a bit lost in the loud bits. I havent updated the link yet, but I've turned up the snare as you suggest. :thumbs up:
Thanks for all the comments, guys. I added Frank's drums at the weekend, this is the first mix with them included. I haven't re-tracked the vocals yet but I may still do so.

This is a finished song, but for now it has fake drums - real ones are being recorded in a week or so, when the scion of House Po returns from college. Armistice plays some guitar in the verse. Comments welcome. :)

Why are you fixating on me? I'm only one of many people who have called you out on this. Are you actually posting music on this forum in order to get evaluations on your mixes, thereby helping you to improve? I don't think you are. Week after week you keep reposting the same music, bumping the...
If you want to post up some new work, in the hope of getting mix advice, then you'll be abiding by the intent of this forum and I'll be happy to give my ten penn'orth. As it is, you haven't, you're not, and I won't.
So. You seem to be finally getting the message. People aren't interested in your endlessly recycled minor remixes, thread bumps and reposts disguised as new material.
Hi, Nick :) Listening to mix 4 at the moment. First impressions - to me, the overall mix is too "crispy" for want of a better word. The mix isn't balanced across the EQ spectrum. The performances and sounds seem to be good, so I reckon this would mix very well, but right now it needs rebuilding...
That's quite a nice synth patch you have to bring in the tune. Likewise it's a very pleasant crunchy guitar sound you have, there. It all works pretty well for the genre you're working in.:) The kick drum and bass guitar tones aren't working well together for me - they're both a bit woolly and...
To me this is a game of two halves. Mix-wise, you can hear everything but the whole thing is a bit turgid and overblown. The synth sounds are very uninspiring in particular. The slower-paced part of the song is a dead ringer for the type of music that we older guys in the UK would call "Test...
