    cold, cold ground

Heatmiser, I haven't read anybody else's comments. :D I absolutely love this. Everything sounds gutsy, the groove between the drums and bass is insistent and gripping in an awesome "Love is the Drug" kind of way, their tones fantastic. I think the hard, roomy drums totally kick arse and the...

Llano del Rio - Acoustic country from an inveterate punk.

    LOL, You funny bugger! :D

    Clarify the term "Drum Overheads"

Fluffer: (n) A person on the set of a pornographic film employed to ensure the male actors maintain an erection between takes, by means of oral or manual stimulation. Nice.

Llano del Rio - Acoustic country from an inveterate punk.

Thanks very much, TripleM. There is a new mix in the op - the bass has indeed been turned up a bit! Good spot. :)

    The New Tone Thread

I put it up in the clinic this morning. :)

    New tune, yeah!

Love it. I wouldn't change a thing - except, maybe, cut the length of the muffled intro down a bit and perhaps find a better sound than the Atari synth. Really good.

Llano del Rio - Acoustic country from an inveterate punk.

Thanks very much, no fucking offence taken. :D You were right about the acoustic, when I checked on the monitors. I looked at my EQ (on the Focusrite Red2 EQ, which isn't graphical) and there was a hump in the 100-300 Hz range. Another thing I noticed was the vocal was too "hard edged" through...

Llano del Rio - Acoustic country from an inveterate punk.

I'll check all those points out, Jdude.:D Regarding the double "L", you will have noticed that the pronunciation is "Yano" rather than "Chlano". WHy? Beats me! :D

Llano del Rio - Acoustic country from an inveterate punk.

Something completely different from me, this time. I don't do acoustic stuff and I most DEFINITELY don't do country. :D :D The song is about a failed idealistic self-contained community that was set up in 1914 near the town of Llano in California. This is a cover version but I won't say who by...

Ha ha - this tune's fairly heavy on the Ukes, too. :D

No need for a sub, really. Even 5" drivers sound good nowadays. My Yamaha HS5s are a little light in the bass but very detailed. My friend's Adam A5xs are superb.

    The New Tone Thread

I've been working on an acoustic country song today. I won't be posting it here. :D

    Pillars

The vocals sit really well, mate.:D Just to be clear, I'm not talking a whole lot of weight, here - just a tweak.

    Pillars

I really like it. :D Why are you worried about your vocals? Everything is very clear - almost too clear, to the point of needing a tad more bottom end weight on the rhythm guitars, I think. This is as metal as I ever get in my musical tastes - it's more in the genre of pixies/smashing pumpkins...

    The Bends - remix

Thanks - just make it sound like you're fit to be committed to a mental institution, then we're in the right ball park. :D My missus will be doing the B.V.s shortly. If you want to carry on the conversation, we'll take it to PM, I don't want to hijack your thread. :)

"Game Over" - a lost classic rescued.

Many thanks. :D This song is all about the energy, and the buildup and release of the tension, as you correctly identified. Also the mix is meant to try to convey the feel of their live performance without it actually being live. One thing I can't replicate is the absolute testicle-rattling...

    The Bends - remix

Cheers, Paulman. :D That was only my third project using a proper DAW. At the time I only had a couple decent mics and only four tracks for the drum kit. Stands up pretty well two years later, I think.

common mistakes that make your tone suck.

A lot of really great, groundbreaking guitarists used loads of effects. The difference between those guitarists and your average pedal collector is the same as between a decent painter and somebody who gets a paint-by-numbers set for Christmas. The worst ones can't even choose the right colours...

I forgot about the modes. Doesn't that make twelve? :D My tone doesn't suck, though. :D

common mistakes that make your tone suck.

Wow. People can get very defensive about their pedal boards. :) I suppose you could say that I have four overdrive pedals. They're all on the amp, though. :D
