    Akg d770

They're back Hi, The AKG D770s have been relisted. Do a search on ebay. $20 start bid. $5 shipping. $30 buy it now. When my new one comes in I will have a pair so don't hold back on my account. The D 770s are still on the website so maybe they're still selling them. D*770 The 690 isn't. I...

    Akg d770

Ok, I had good luck and I was the only bidder on my mic. I got an AKG D770 new for $20 plus $5 shipping. I have a used one already that I paid around $28 for several years ago. Persistence furthers. Like moresound says, you always want two.

    Any suggestions for mics?

I always recommend a pair of dynamic omnis as a good starting point. Easy to use and place and your recordings will sound like your music. But nobody ever listens to me and they always start with a cheap condenser mic. Hard to use and place. Strident in the upper mids. Picks up everything in the...

    Electro-Voice 666 Microphone

All is not lost even if the capsule is bad. EV has a great service department. They can probably fix your mic. The 666 is a classic and expensive to buy used. Thanks, Hairy Larry

    Akg d770

Hi, There are a bunch of these new on ebay from the same seller. (not me, in fact I'm bidding) These are very good mics, far better than they ought to be for their price point. They are no longer being made so this is new old stock and he has a bunch on buy it now at $30 + $5 shipping. AKG D...

What's your favorite mic for electric guitar amp mic'ing and WHY?

When I want a SM57 sound only better I choose my SM56. But most often I choose the Beyerdynamic M400 Soundstar Mark II, A european dynamic with great mids and high end detail. One of my best dynamics. I will have to try the PL80, a vocals mic I adore and an ND357, which I haven't used much since...

    withdrawal symptoms

moresound, Me either. The big ones always go for more than I can afford. My most recent win using this technique is an AKG D320B for $35. I told myself I was safe because I would never win it that cheap. And it came in all shiny and immaculate. Unbelievable. I already had a D310 (older) and a...

    withdrawal symptoms

moresound, When I have the itch and I can't afford to scratch this is what I do. I drool over the vintage mics on ebay and when I get really carried away I bid rediculously low to find out 4 days later that I didn't win it. Except once in a while I do win it and I get a nice vintage mic for a...

    Akg D690

Richard, The AKG D690 is similar to the very well thought of AKG D770 except it's hypercardiod. I have two of them and i use them all the time. I even used a 690 on a stand up bass live and it really kicked. Once at Blues Fest I was having trouble with a mic and I started swapping stuff out...

Harvey asked me to post my question for your thoughts and feedback?

slimbobby, Video studios used to use dynamic omni lav mics like the EV 649b. My guess is you will get less room noise and clothing noise with a mic like that than with a Sony condenser. They came with a string that would go around your neck so you can wear it like a necklace. Thanks, Hairy Larry

Mics for under $100 - that just may work for you.

Elyst, My recommendation for a budget all purpose mic for recording is a dynamic omni. You can get a pair under $100 because omnis are cheap. And when you step up and put some money into your mics you omnis will still be great for some things. Thanks, Hairy Larry

Help me with my set up

What he said. (Yo Brother Rat) I like dynamics. I use condenser mics but I use dynamics more. Some good dynamic mics for the budget minded at AKG D770, AKG D690, EV PL80, Peavey 520i, Beyer M400, Beyer Opus 69. There are many others. For the most part I'm talking used. Anywhere from $30 to $100...

    Fifty dollar mics

Shure must have made a million 1070 mics because you never have to wait to long to find one on ebay. Dynamic omnis don't get the love they deserve. When Deutsche Gramaphon recorded symphony orchestras direct to disk they had a pair of dynamic omnis in the concert hall. Most likely EV RE55s...

    kick drum mic choices

adiobox, I like my Audio Technica ATM25 fine, and it's a good general purpose dynamic good for many tasks. If I was going to drop $200 on a kick mic I might be tempted to save a little more and get an EV RE20. Of all the mics I can't afford it's the one I lust after most. It is also a...

Choosing a mic for acoustic guitar recording

YuvalAS, Both the 990 and the 603 have a 22 mm capsule. They are both MDCs. My guess is the 603 will sound very similar to your 990. I have used 603s for recording acoustic guitars because of many recommendations on this bbs. They did very well, indeed. But the mic I love for acoustic guitar...

    Mics in live TV studio

Meska, The most common practice in a TV studio is to use an omni or a pair of spaced omnis, usually dynamics. They might put a lav mic on the vocalist or let the vocalist sing into an unamplified omni keeping the instrument levels low enough to hear the vocals. If the band uses a PA they might...
