Suddenly Lost Stereo Buss Monitoring On The 388

So your testing methods are unorthodox, and I’m not 100% confident they are conclusive, but I’m not sure how to ratchet that down and navigate that process, so I’m going to just say to your previous concern about your mic inputs, by virtue of what you shared above, signal is coming through all...

Suddenly Lost Stereo Buss Monitoring On The 388

Okay. Now we’re getting somewhere. It was not clear to me at any point in the thread none of your mic inputs work. So you have connected a verifiably known working dynamic mic to mic inputs 1-8 using a verifiably known good cable, and turned up each the respective trim controls, and checked for...

Suddenly Lost Stereo Buss Monitoring On The 388

I’m sorry…I don’t understand what you are either asking or what you are exploring and why.

Suddenly Lost Stereo Buss Monitoring On The 388

Glad you know what the problem is. I didn’t think to ask if you verified the input was working, because you indicated in your first post you tried multiple inputs (referred to channels 1 & 2). I think rather than impedance, the problem is signal strength. Not sure what exactly you plugged...

Suddenly Lost Stereo Buss Monitoring On The 388

And can you verify no L-R assign switches are latched (down position) on input channels 1-8?

What about the INSERT switch state?

Is the problem the same at the MONITOR OUT jacks? What is the state of the PGM/CUE switch? What are the states of the track arming switches?

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

I’d have to look at the whole gear assembly, but it’s possible the “gear C” experiences greater load, or lesser, so it was made out of different plastic, which unintentionally and unknowingly breaks down faster than the others…becomes brittle…something like that. It must just be a different...

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

Yeah, yeah that’s what I mean there. Yeah I do and they can be a pain to clean because they are small diameter. If the grease is hardened often it can be knocked loose with a toothbrush and fully removed with compressed air. That’s been good enough. Sometimes I can twist a thin piece of rag...

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

I think I generally take the assembly apart and clean off the old grease regardless…not the teeth, but the spindles themselves and the gear bores and apply new grease…maybe add a little to the gear teeth, but if the grease seems to be in good shape and things are moving freely I think it can be...

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

Hey, Daniel…IIRC I’ve always encountered some lubricant there…non-conductive I assume :) . I think in my experience it’s not been dry or hardened and I redistribute it to re-cover the contact tracks and call it good.

    Tascam M-2600 MkII available soon

I’m not interested, but it might help to know how many channels (16, 24 or 32), and whether or not it includes the optional meter bridge. Also, I have a bit of a soft-spot for the M-2600 series because of what’s going on under the hood as well as the feature set…pretty cool for a budget...

Rescuing a Forgotten Ampex AG 440B Mono and perhaps 2 more...

I’d be careful with using actual abrasive paper on the edge connectors. I’m not sure how fine grit you used, but I wouldn’t even use 1000 or 2000 grit on edge contacts. If you truly need to burnish them, a good quality contact cleaner and multiple cycles of reseating is usually all that’s...

Fostex Model 20 Alignment: Practical vs. Ethical

I don’t know what you read. You’d have to provide more specifics. It what I can tell you is PPM meters display the peak of the program material…PPM stands for Peak Program Meter. PPM meters can be digital (LED or plasma for instance) or analog. So what you see is more representative of the...

Fostex Model 20 Alignment: Practical vs. Ethical

Peak-reading meters show program peaks. Averaging meters show an average level of the program dynamics. If you are measuring test tone there are no dynamics to average…it’s a constant non-complex source whether at the input or from a test tape, so both meter types are going to reflect the same...

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

Yeah there’s nothing wrong with the 424/464 transport at all…similar to the 488, 644 and 688 too. That’s the thing…there are a LOT of them out there. So it’s not a challenge to find spares if absolutely necessary. And while the gears raise an eyebrow, I do like it better than a belt. And the...

Just picked up this Tascam Corporation Model 10 – anyone here familiar with it?

If you connect a line level source like a CD player, mobile phone, synthesizer, etc to the RCV jack do you get good signal? Just keep in mind you are working on a relatively obscure console that appears to have modifications, and nobody in the conversation has any technical documentation...

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

I think I used hemostats, Daniel…and the key was sliding it in whatever direction got me closest to the plate clearing one of the pins, and then using the tool in the middle of the plate (maybe I used a spudger?) to bow it up and help provide the last little bit of clearance. I was thinking the...

Tascam 464 and 488 head base pressure spring / plate - how do you get this part out?

Hey, Daniel! IIRC…and I wish I had one here to verify…but you should be able to slide that spring plate *upward* away from the head base assembly so the forked end can clear the lower pin, and then you’ll be able to slide it back down toward the head base to clear the top pin through opening in...

Just picked up this Tascam Corporation Model 10 – anyone here familiar with it?

You’ll have to test it out. Looks like somebody possible replaced the RCA jacks with 1/4” jacks. If the jacks do not have normalling contacts that connect the signal conductor at the SEND jack to the signal conductor at the RCV jack when nothing is plugged in, then I suspect you need a jumper...
