What do you do with your music?

I have earned my living playing for 50+ years and still do maybe 300 gigs a year ( on hiatus at the moment of course but they'll be back soon ). Playing live is what I live for so recording, which I have also done for that 50 years is for fun. Very many of my recordings are only heard by me...

What determines the function of a chord?

That's actually several questions in one so I'm gonna go for the history part of it "how did the scales come to be and who did it?" ............ 35 year piano tuner talking here An awful lot of this stuff directly ties to J. S. Bach. Prior to him they didn't even use even tempered tuning so...

Love Or Confusion - Jimi Hendrix cover

No way that vocal is too loud ..... and, as Talisman pointed out. way too much delay/verb ....... that's really all I'm hearing of the vox .... the vocal needs to be much more present. On Hendrix's recordings pretty much all of them have his vocals really present. Nice job on the tracks though...

could blow a mic here ahhh (help advice please)

I remember years ago when I bought a Mackie mixer one of the cautions in the manual was to have phantom power off when plugging or unplugging cables because, if I remember correctly, the sudden surge (which we know happens because there wouldn't be a loud pop if it didn't) can, over time, damage...

    Rode NT1 + scarlett 2i2 + 48V - is this right?

I may have been thinking about many. MANY different things that have input gain AND out levels .... haven't used the Scarlett .... so I didn't fucking know dudes . Now I remember the snotty replies that run people away from this place. See ya'll in another year or two

    Rode NT1 + scarlett 2i2 + 48V - is this right?

It actually doesn't matter where the gain needs to be set to avoid clipping as long as the output is enough to record with. There's no rule like "Gain should always be halfway up, or a quarter up or even all the way up. You set the gain to have no clipping and then set the output to have enough...

Need help diagnosing this issue with my Tascam 388

I always follow these threads because I have several reel to reels that I'm gonna be fixing soon but rarely comment because I know little. HOWEVER ..... I simply had to comment on what a great user name gobbltygoop is ..... I use that term ALL the time.

How often do you guys oil your fretboards, generally?

I never oil my fretboards ..... I change strings when the intonation goes bad which is usually before they get rusty or rough. I gig nightly though, so that's prolly a factor. I'll also change strings when one breaks ..... I usually get a couple of weeks out of a set of strings.

Shocks to the lips from the mic

please ...... I see this warning all the time as if you're doomed to die if you do that. back in the day (60's and into the 70's) many amps just didn't have grounds at all and we got shocked so often that it was common practice to touch the git strings to the mic stand and look for sparks or...

Shocks to the lips from the mic

is the amp plugged into the same outlet as the mixer? If not then do so. Sometimes that alone can fix the problem.

Zoom MRS-802CD: How to delete tracks/make space?

on some of those things, like my Fostex MR8, deleting files does not free up space .... you have to actually reformat the drive ..... so if you're willing to completely wipe it, then simply reformat the drive.

    Late arriving Musicians

you said the first act was very late so if they have to deal with a drummer setting up it's on them and not the drummer ..... the first act was the one being unprofessional by being very late. I mean, I don't care, everything about all my gigs is always professional and on-time ...... I never...

My husband is going to kill me, please help!

if he has any sense he'll just look at it as a satisfactory reason to buy a new mic. That's what I'd do

agreed ..... kick pverpowers the guitar

    Is it possible?

yep ...... I'll use a 'click' like say, 2 drum sticks hitting each other .... a nice short duration that makes it easy to align.
  18. Lt. Bob

    Is it possible?

that's what I would do ..... I use a Tascam DR-05 ($100) and get excellent recordings of gigs all the time. Fact is, dealing with a bunch of mics is very distracting and would likely interfere with your playing and enjoyment.
