You will want a microphone with low self noise, as the self noise will be amplified along with the audio. You will often find this specified in units of dBA, and lower number=lower self noise.

A "standard" Blumlein array would be rotated a further 45° (as compared with your photo) so that each mic would face at 45° to the cab? Did you try that as well, or am I just being tricked by the perspective in the photo?

As Jimmy mentions, make sure you have lots of RAM. If you don't, you will start using virtual memory which will slow things noticeably.
It may also help to disable the cpu frequency scaling.

In that case, based on the fuse ratings for the actual equipment, it would seem that 3A would be fine for either unit.
I wonder if the plugs require fast or slow blow fuses?

A 5amp fuse you might find in a power amplifier. A 13 amp fuse? In a welder perhaps?
Try 0.5amp (500 milliamp) for the Tube Composer, 0.315amp (315 milliamp) for the Ultragraph Pro. These pertain to 220 or 240V supply.

A M-Audio DMP3 might also do the trick. I think they are no longer made, but you might find one as clearance stock, or second hand. These are very clean and quiet.
