there's a new mic on the block

That sounds good Alan. I like the Amalfitanian coast as well. I always go there on vacation. I know some good hotels in Positano with a beautiful view on the bay. Mail me the next time you come to Italy. I will call your friend in Milano and send him a Christmas card as well. :-) Merry...

there's a new mic on the block

Dear Alan, I live in Tuscany (Italy), Siena to be exact. It’s a great place to live, because the Italians are wonderful people. I’m originally from Holland, but after eight years the Italian government officially decided that they’re not going to send me back. I’m still in the Christmas card...

there's a new mic on the block

Hi Allan, I believe in your microphone, because I believe in you. I can’t get it here in Europe, but I’m quite sure that If you tell me what your C3 costs in US$, and you give me an address where to mail an envelope full with best Christmas whishes to, I will sooner or later find a nice C3, as...

Poll : Best all-round mic for beginner

I am sad, not because there is anything wrong with the SM57; No! Actually, I promise you all; I will pull it from its loyal Neutric plug tonight and sleep with it! Please do not agree to much, say something bad about it please !!!! Please, please, please, I give up, but please let there be...

Poll : Best all-round mic for beginner

This is exactly the only thing that’s really tricky about forums in general, everybody just wants to be recognized and just starts repeating each other, just like their music should be commercial, the level at which they burn their CD’s should be as hot as a commercial CD, etc etc. It’s not a...

Poll : Best all-round mic for beginner

About SM57/58: They are the most beautiful mic’s ever made, They are jewels of design! The SM58 was the very first microphone I owned! I did lots of recordings with my SM58, I started about seventeen years ago when I was eighteen years old. I now also own the SM57 Beta! I regret all the...

Poll : Best all-round mic for beginner

Better late then never. Someone had to stand up sooner or later and tell the truth: You should not record with a SM57. Use it as a hammer instead, It’s better suited for that!

Poll : Best all-round mic for beginner

Don’t talk nonsense please! The SM57 is not the best all-round mic !!! Do yourself a favor, just buy a decent condenser mic. It may also be a small diaphragm. I still like the AKG C2000 as budget solution (very cheep, “medium diaphragm”, great all-round mic) The SM57 is only good for.... (I...

Will a Joe meek pre cut down noise from a marshall mic?

This doesn’t have anything to do with the above mentioned discussion. I don’t even know the C1 because I live in Europe and can’t buy it here but I’m sure it’s a great mic. The only thing that comes in my mind are the numerous discussions that I watched on various music forums for years just...

    Soundfont compatible soundcards

The SBLive handles its wave processing internally at 48KHz and ditters back to 44.1KHz on the fly if you tell it to do so. It has never been stable at 44.1KHz in VST resulting in synchronizing problems between different tracks. 44.1KHz is the CD sample frequency standard, and recording...

    Soundfont compatible soundcards

Hi, I’m mainly using VST for audio recording because my instrument is the guitar. I do however every now and then use some soundfonts and a midi keyboard to record simple strings or piano. My biggest problem is the SBLive that I’m forced to use when recording soundfonts. It’s not compatible...

best way to record SBLive midi to audio tracks (one for you gidge)

There is no need to use your output at all. You can keep everything internal. Whatever software you are using, temporarily assign your SB live as preferred recording device, then assign the wave/synth input in the Windows recording mixer to the Sblive. Don’t forget to record your track at 48KHz...

Getting a good guitar distortion sound recorded?

I never had any problems recording distorted sound. I use a good condenser mic (with -10db switch), put on my headphone and play my amp, listen to different mic positions while I play. I agree that end tube saturation provides a good crunch (not if you’re using 6L6 tubes btw), but it is much...

    A Tale of 3 AKGs, a C1 and a U-87.

This mic position thing is very interesting. I don’t think it’s possible to record five different tracks all played exactly the same on an acoustic guitar. Besides the differences in playing style there is also the movement of the guitar body that greatly influences the recorded sound. A good...

Worth setting up spare PC for softsynths?

I have seriously considered doing something like that myself. The only problem is finding a suitable soundcard. I like the simplicity of sondfonds etc, but the SB Live doesn’t have a 44.1KHz digital out (only 48KHz), so how could I hook it up to the SPDIF of my RME card without having to convert...

Is it imperative to use a shockmount?.... Harvey?... Anyone?

Not only would I use a shockmount, I even attach my pop filter on a different stand then my microphone! A sudden strong movement of air stopped by a pop filter can create such huge vibrations on a mic stand, that even a shockmount can’t absorb it!

    Multiple Sound Cards and Cubase

I bought the DIGI96PST instead of the Hammerfall. It’s latency is slightly higher (23ms) but it is rock solid under VST just as the Hammerfall The reason I bought it was the build in converters. It has a stereo pair of AD/DA 9624 converters of extremely high quality. For the rest is offers 1...

    Behringer V-amp... IT RUUUUULES!!!!!

I don’t know about the Behringer, but I do like my J-station for the fact that is has an SPDIF out at 44.1kHz 24Bit This makes it extremely easy to use in my recording setup. The SPDIF goes directly into my RME soundcard. And the 44.1KHz sample rate adapts excellent to the rest of the tracks...
