    Authenticity of Shure mics...

A 4x12 cab? You're micing a 4x12 cab? That may be your whole problem right there. Monster stacks, and large cabs, while they sound GREAT live, are NOT the ideal choice for recording.

    What would you do?

One from A AND one from B? I don't think you could get a U195 and a D.W. Fern for 3 grand? Could you? But, that's a nice list, if it works out in the price range, that's a good suggestion, BUT ;) Spend some of that hard earned money on acoustic treatments for your room (not pyrimad foam) and...

    I tried this today ...

A room mike, set in omni mode is ALWAYS a nice way to bring out some of that airy, room sound. Sometimes its desireable, sometimes its not. Sounds like it worked out good for your situation. I can't believe the guy bitched at you for experimenting! I don't know ANYTHING about the...

I'm kind of partial to a "Burgandy and Black" color scheme myself. Which, is not too far off from where you are.

    Pro Tools. Yea or Nay?

I've talked to more than a few professional AE's here in Austin, and all of them tell me ProTools sounds like ass. These are guys that have been in the biz a lot longer than you and I. When I ask them which digital platform they DO prefer, I get a resounding, hands down, no holds barred answer...

    Pair of mics choice

If you're just looking for an entry level pair of SDC's the Oktava MC012 is a pretty versatile mic that you'd most likely get good use of. The MXL 603's are VERY similar in sound and quality. If you want to step up a couple of links on the food chain, The Shure SM81 is a fantastic mike that...

Can this be used for Bass Traps ?

What's interesting, is that the literature states the dimension of the Roxul for wood studs on 16" centers to be 15-1/4". When I was installing the rockwool in my studio, the studs are 16" on center - so that makes an inside dimension of 14-1/2", but the RocKWool comes in 16" widths. I had to...

    Nuendo 2

I've been using Nuendo since ver. 1.0 came out (Now using 2.1) and I've never had a problem like that. Either you're using a cracked version, or you haven't read the manual.

    Recording a grand piano - Nt2?

That's why fletcher said to tune all other instruments to the piano. Check out my song "December's Mist" here: http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=1656&alid=-1&20040703081136#13796 If you like the sound, let me know, and I'll tell you how it was done.

What do you think my next investment should be?

I think your next investment ought to be in room acoustics.

    Telephone Recording

Blue Bear - you had recomended the JK Audio unit to me before. Its just a little more than I really wanted to pay for something like that. I guess if it works - its worth it. I may just have to bite the bullet and shell out the clams for it. Here's a site that has something similar to what we...

    Telephone Recording

We do training calls twice a week, and frequently cover different topics as needed, so they're going to change frequently. That kind of makes sending out CD's inefficient. What I really want to do is to have the calls stream either in MP3, wav or Real Audio. MP3 will help, but I'm not sure if...
