Does it mudd out in the mix with the same sound for rythem and lead?

I would try panning the lead somewhere around hard left and right then adding some reverbs on it. The rhythm can be placed halfway to the center of the mix (around 50%) without reverb or with very little reverb. Even they have the same sound, they have different space and ambiance, so they sound...

Noise Floor of PreSonus FireStudio Mobile

Well listening to it, I cannot tell there is no signal on it. I recommend to do a test recording with a music instrument such as an acoustic guitar recording using microphones or acapella vocals then record at 24-bits/48KHz. Record with peaks mostly at -15dBFS to -6dBFS (watch the recording...

    Dynamic Range.

Its actually a very good and informative video. This is a very important concept in audio mastering. Loud does not always sound good if the dynamic range has been squashed. Its why , when I get tired I would pickup classical music recordings (like the Beethoven symphonies) instead of modern...

    Suggestions on starting from scratch

Well it depends on your needs, if you aim to record a full band live somewhere in time, I would consider investing an audio interface that can handle up to 8 simultaneous pre-amp inputs (which can be expensive). If your entire plan in building your studio is for recording vocals and guitars...

not sure if this is a problem with a DAW setting or my computer...

I have experienced this before. One thing is that there are quite a lot of resources running. I solve this problem in two aspects, first I optimize background processing in Windows XP (probably this feature is also available in Win7, not sure). This will let the CPU to optimize audio playbacks...

    Saffire 6

I have read the manual and Saffire 6 does offer two sets of outputs. You can connect output 1/2 to your KRK 5 and output 3/4 to your PC speakers. It is just a matter of using appropriate adapters and connectors to fit with the PC speakers, etc.

    I've come to the conclusion

Knowing the basic is very important. And yes, recording is not a one night success. In most part; even the pro ones, it is more of a trial and error process. It is why you often heard the term "re-recording" "re-mix" "remastering", even in the commercial and professional level. If you are not...

    Hum Issues...Advice Please

Not sure, I have not tested it. I suggest trying to borrow some DI with ground lift from any of your studio friends if you have and see if it fix the problem. Have you tried using TRS balance cables in connecting your Saffire Pro to the line inputs?

    Hum Issues...Advice Please

Some tips to reduce or remove hum: 1.) Make sure all of your gears are connected to the same ground loop in your AC power. So the Saffire pro 40 and mixing desk are connected to the same ground. 2.)Try not putting audio cables near any power adapters. 3.) A direct box can help reduce or solve...

Accessing projects from two different PCs?

I have tried this before and it works for me. First, I would make sure that my networked computers are using similar OS (such as Windows XP or Windows 7). Second, I make sure that they belong to the same network. I simply run the command in DOS: ipconfig /all Then get the ip address of both...

    alesis 3630 compressor connection

OK, have you tried connecting the compressor to the mixer using its side chain input? You can also try this if it works. In this case you need a Y cable with TRS insert on one end and two mono plugs on the other end which you will connect to aux sends and return of the Xenyx 1204FX mixer. For...

    My voice sounds different recorded

You did not give more details. Does the recording sound clean in the first place? Of course, even a good voice will sound bad if the recording is full of hiss or noise. Make sure you have a very clean vocal recording in the first place and use appropriate microphones for vocal recording. My two...
