I happen to fall on a different side of the fence on this topic. To classify the bulk of popular music as garbage and advocate supporting the indie artist simply b/c their music hasn't been embraced by the masses is, in my opinion, a very shallow solution to an age old debate. Popluar music is...
That's a good point actually. I noticed that some of my more productive moments came when I had a recording date set. I knew I had to get my tunes together so that I wouldn't waste any valuable studio time. Deadlines do help.
The challenge is to bring those different ideas to fruition. I think most writers have pieces of songs in different stages all the time. But try to complete them, good or bad. There's nothing wrong with a good rewrite later on, plus it allows you to learn the craft as you go.
Acapella is a great way to steer clear of common patterns in your playing or piecing a song together. I've also found that by just playing some music and singing out lound in a stream of consciousness kind of way that I can come up with something that I can work to develop.
I use the Neato software just for mix cds and the like that I burn at home. If you are wanting to design your own CD cover I agree with Helmut. Much better and more professional to do it with Photoshop and Illustrator or something comprobable.
I'm not sure I understand your angle. First the rant in another thread about 'take back the music' and 'pay the artist' and now ALL your music is free on your site. ???
I hear ya
I've always have a handful of songs laying around that are in a partial stage of completion. I know what you mean about once you 'hear' something in your head melody wise its hard to shake. I usually throw that song away and you know what? Usually a few months later it pops into my...
bingo
I agree with Pirateking. There's nothing wrong with changing the tempo of a song you wrote. Gee wiz, it's your creation so you make the rules. Writing a song is about telling a story, evoking a mood, and striking a chord with the listener. But above that its about self expression...
Larrivee - good : Taylor - best
Larrivee! I had forgotten about those. Very reputable and have gained alot of attention lately with some notable endorsees.
For $300 you can get a Baby Taylor which, trust me is an awesome little tool. People are using them for recording and live ensembles all...
I have no idea about Gibson's current acoustic guitar line but those old ones are dandies. A guys at my work bought a similar one to Req's for a couple of hundred bucks. The thing plays beautifully.
Someone suggested shopping for used guitars earlier. If you know exactly what you're looking...
On MP3.com you can opt not to let the tune be downloadable. You can even just authorize a lo-fi version. Or you could encode it in Real Audio with a secret link for the BBS here and only leave it up for a day or so. If you've got any concerns though, just have some patience and post it when you...
LR Baggs are wonderful electronics and really set the standard in acoustic amplification. Need proof? Check out their site http://www.lrbaggs.com for players who play without paid endorsements!
Ovation guitars are a different breed of acoustic and you really need to make sure you aren't wanting...
This is a common question here, but most people would agree that with your tune given free access to the web community it would definitely be a good idea to copyright your work. For the same price you can copyright as many songs as you want at one time. Its just good business sense to protect...
I didn't cry over this one, but a song that I always kind of felt the guys pain to was "Faithfully" by Journey. Ole Steve Perry was feeling pretty road weary I guess.
With your budget I would suggest that you get the most acoustic for your money and then add on the best electronics you can at a later time. For recording purposes you can get the truest sound by miking the guitar and miking a live solo acoustic performance is a breeze. However in a band...
I've got a great Taylor acoustic that I use to record with but with playing live becoming more and more frequent I'm looking into nonobtrusive pickups/electronics. The Baggs stuff looks great and I was wondering if anyone had any comments good or bad on their products. I don't want anyone to cut...
