    I owe you guys

Thanks in large part to an earlier thread I posted here (2 new tracks....**see below**), my song "Living Color" is sitting at #15 on the mp3.com Groove Charts with a double bullet. Just wanted to say thanks a ton. The feedback here is really helpful in getting things "just right". It means a lot.

Something new, yet old in a way

groovin' I dig it. I totally dig it. This is Jon-X at his best - experimenting with new sounds and always looking for killer tone. Of course the playing is dead on; the perfect blend of emotion and flawless execution. The man can play anything. I know those loops are just done with samples, but...

2 new tracks - would appreciate the feedback

Hey David. Man, thanks a bunch. Yes, that's me singing on the tracks. I think I mentioned before that Jon-X played those rocking electric solos on every tune you'll find on my page. It's an excellent partnership. My name is on the stuff, but he was every bit as responsible for making those...

J O N - X :D! Glad you're back, my man. And thanks for jumping in on the discussion. As always, enlightening us on the finer points of recording.

You know Teddie? I've met him thru MP3.com and this board. Totally nice guy and really does some great stuff. I have, as a matter of fact heard that tune. Sounds like we work kind of similarly. I did the same thing - had my stuff professionally mastered. Kind of irons out the rough spots and...

2 new tracks - would appreciate the feedback

MAC2, I checked out those samples. Nice sounding stuff. Thanks for checking out my other tunes. Glad you liked them. You asked about San Francisco. Believe or not a remix for that song is in the works, adding in a couple of things that I dropped at the last minute. I try not to overproduce...

Thanks GT and jet-rocker! Hmmm....Dream Theater. I never in a million years would have pegged my vocal as likening that comparison. Interesting.

2 new tracks - would appreciate the feedback

Thanks for the input, LI Slim! You know it's funny that you brought that up. That whole Mp3.com categorization deal is wide open to interpretation if you ask me. As for groove, I have no idea how to define that type of music. As I was looking thru the sub-genres I ran across that one - never...

2 new tracks - would appreciate the feedback

Wow, gang thanks for the input. Slack, I agree with you about the bass. I've found recording bass to be a great mystery when it comes to "bringing it to life". Any tips on that would be HUGELY appreciated. Glad you all liked "Living Color". That song was recorded very quickly - only a couple...

    Me vs. Me

LOL, Jon-X I like the abstract filmmaking observation. The compositions are very unique. I listened twice - which is saying alot. Nice work, slack.

Hey MAC2. Thanks for taking the time to listen. I really appreciate your feedback. For the guitar solo I opted for that abrupt stop and slide intro. I can see where it might sound awkward. Every song on that page is a direct result of my first time recording so alot - no make that everything -...

"stars" succeed with weak songs - WHY?

2 new tracks - would appreciate the feedback

YOOHOO! 2 New Tracks Well its been ages since I've added anything to my page at mp3.com, but I did upload two new tracks. "The End & Everything After" is straight up rock and roll with a pretty wicked solo. "Living Color" is a true power trio effort - just acoustic guitar, bass & drums. I'd...

"stars" succeed with weak songs - WHY?

Sorry, mojo - I wasn't trying to imply that you were calling anyone a sellout. I just meant that as a general blanket statement based on others remarks in this thread. I totally agree with you - bravo to those who are out there doing it for real. Sounds like your songwriting tastes lean close to...

"stars" succeed with weak songs - WHY?

Well said John. And you made a point I was alluding too earlier when I talked about a "screening process". Even if you don't agree with everything I've said, I think we could all agree that no artist (at least the vast majority of artists) is delivered a deal on a silver platter. They worked...

"stars" succeed with weak songs - WHY?

Jeff, thanks for the comments. Your points are well taken, however, I still think they are flawed. #1 - you equate signing a record deal with garnering airplay and getting a fair push from the label. Plenty of artists succeed without either or at least from a grassroots push from fans earned by...

    Ever tried this exercise?

Have you ever tried writing a song with a particular artist in mind? It's a great way to exercise thinking about songwriting in a way that you might not otherwise. I've heard professional songwriters talk about the 100 song rule. That is, after you write your 100th song (this is an arbitrary...
