    best way to hang panels

As i said before, do a search on impaling clips, they cost just a few cents and are available online and work fine with unframed panels. If you want to mount the panels away from the wall then screw or nail some blocking to the wall and attach the impaling clip to the blocking.

    Vocal Booth Questions!!

A great many home built booths are four by four because that is the dimensions of the material. But even dimensions are not best for accoustics. Also you can save money and get better results by making DIY 703 fiberglass panels rather than Auralex. But let's start with the first question...

We have released a new track called, er, "Release"

You mention bass, drums, and vocal...who does the keyboard work? I like the feel of all of your work. If there are no ownership issues would you be willing to let me use your stuff on my upcoming podcast? You can search for it either in this thread or the cave?

    This Is A Song

Cool, I don't think that the bass is too loud at all, the vocals come across quite clear. I was hoping that you would be willing to let me use some of your songs on my podcast project (there are a couple of threads on it around here). If so which ones?

    Another Acoustics Request

Gullfo's picture is attractive, but I think a bit too ambitious for somebody still looking to upgrade from the stock dell speakers. There are a couple of good points to it though, get your desk centered on the long axis of the room. Also turning one room into a well done recording room rather...

What about Fleece to cover 703

felt is also a good cheap choice. To play it really safe you should also invest in some spray-on flameproofing

Bass traps with a pitched ceiling...anyone want to take a crack at this one?

Bass builds up between corners because it is the longest dimensions in the room. So is the longest dimension in the room from the center peak to one of the opposite corners or is it still from the corner to the opposite corner? With you describing the slope as relatively low (1:12) i am...

Don't Ask for "Sympathy" (Remember What You did To Me)

Would you be cool with my using that stuff in my podcast? (on the mixing I too agree that I would like the vocals a little louder.)

    phantom power abuse?

No, but the story that unless you turn it off you will certainly instantly destroy the microphone is something old sound engineers say to young sound engineers to play with their heads.

    condenser mics for live singing

Honestly considering how badly I have seen our church's gear get abused by the several choirs that use it I would never trust them with anything other than a dynamic. I mean how can anybody mishandle a SM58 enough to actually destroy it?

    phantom power abuse?

The only conditions that will cause phantom power to hurt a mic is if there is a short in the cable. Likely? No. Impossible? No.

Open Mic Night at the Cafe Virtuale

As part of a class project I am thinking of starting another podcast to be called Open Mic Night at the Cafe Virtuale. The name sums up the concept rather well: Ecclectic, amateur, and tied together by the feel (added by sfx and ambient beds) that it was recorded at some small hip club. In...

#3 or #6 density fiberglass from SPI?

It is correct that the denser stuff is better for bass absorbtion and the lighter stuff is better for midrange absorbtion. However once you get much less dense than about three it stops being all that good at all. What that might mean in practice though is that a three inch panel of 705 might...

    ceiling treatment and diffusor questions

A ceiling is a wall. We give these things different terms based on our orientation but to sound it is just a surface in a box. So your two concerns are first order reflections from the speakers and slap echoes between the walls and the floor. For the first you will usually be placing a...

Bass absorption in only 3 corners?

Two observations. First, you can put the bass trap above the door, or on the opposite wall/ceiling edge. There is nothing magical about the wall/wall edge of the corner and there is nothing magical about having an exactly 45 degree angle. Second, bass builds up between one corner of a room...

    Bass trap question

Yes it will be effective. As effective as a two foot wide trap? Of course not. OC703 panels are two foot by four foot because it is a standard dimension of a lot of building materials i.e. ceiling tiles. It is not a magical dimension for absorbency. I have a small bass trap above the door...

    Tiny bedroom or Bare garage?

Corner traps do not have to exactly span a corner at a 45 degree angle to be effective. They also do not have to be in the vertical line. the corner trap could be across the edge between the wall and ceiling. Sound does not recognize any particular up or down direction. Also bass builds up...

Is there any sense to invest in my room ?

Well, the main question is for how long is this going to be your studio. If this is the best that you are going to have for years then sure it makes sense. The other thing to bear in mind is that the best stuff to treat the room, 703 fiberglass broadband absorbers, are easily taken down and...
