    How to pick a fake?

They could be fakes, or factory seconds, stolen, or a scam. If it is too good to be true, it isn't.

    flooring in basement studio

laminate flooring is going to want a foam padding and a moisture barrier. Laminate is not intended to be direct-glued to anything. I will agree that you aren't that concerned with sound transmission through a basement slab but moisture is a significant concern.

    Vocal Booth Plans...

You don't want foam, tiles, or blankets. The best absorbtion is with covered semi-rigid fiberglass. Now what sort of a vocal booth are you looking for? Do you want isolation or absorbtion? full construction, freestanding, or temporary panels?

    Question about a USB microphone.

I have a little trouble recommending a USB microphone to a musician because for your needs it is such a dead-end piece of hardware. As soon as you want to record in stereo or multitrack it no longer has a role that it can serve for you. A USB mic is not going to give you something that you...

Owens Corning 703 Covering - Anyone Try This?

There are two types of this material that I have seen on the market. One is a felt-like and the other is a sheet of plastic with a pattern of holes punched in it. The felt-like stuff might be OK, but the sheet plastic is probably not a good choice. Sure the holes will allow sound through, but...

    worlds smallest studio

Bass builds up between a corner and the opposite corner because that is the longest dimension of the room. Having one corner with a massive quantity of absorbtion does not do it if the opposite diagonal has nothing. Another thing to bear in mind is that you cannot absorb more than all. An...

    Problems With My Booth!!

A room that small should be dead for recording vocals. A live room that small would sound really crappy, but it would sound like what you would expect a room that small to sound. So your handclap or whatever sounds odd. You will most likely want to add a little reverb to your tracks to make...

    Is this stereo recording?

yes but the single mics are actually a combination of two capsules in one package. They might be an XY pair or a MS pair but to my knowledge you cannot get a stereo signal from just one capsule.

    Make My Dreams Come True

I'm confused, you seem to have two soundclick artists pages, one for Hamilton Steele and one for the G&M Project. Why the difference? It is not as though you are doing gansta rap on one and need to keep your street cred! BTW I love your stuff and was happy to have it on Open Mic Night at the...

    What to do with fiberglass

You probably could have done this room with just one case, but since you bought two... Use one case to build six four inch thick bass traps. Use four of them to treat floor to ceiling in the corners behind your monitors and two more in the back corners, but because of the odd nook and door put...

I have 10,000 How Should I Build My Studio?

Actually this too has me wondering. A 21 year old has ten thousand dollars to spend, is the best thing to spend it on a basement studio of a house he doesn't own? Invest in yourself at this age, not gear. Training or maybe putting it toward someday having your own basement to build a studio...

    roxul at home depot

I got my 703 from CWCI in the City of Industry east of LA. In general you will not find the right stuff at Home Depot. It will all be either too loose or too dense. You want the 3-5 pcf stuff. The problem with buying 703 or equivalent online is that it must be shipped UPS oversize and costs...

What about Fleece to cover 703

Unless you know that you are dealing with flameproofed material it is always best to buy some spray-on flameproofing. That being said a fabric covered fiberglass panel is much safer than cheap foam on the walls because the fiberglass itself does not burn. Don't get caught up in what kind of...
