What Mo Facta said. If the 1st thing I have to do is pull every one of my faders back to -3 to stop the main mix from clipping, them IMO I simply recorded all the tracks 3db too hot. My preamps are low end, and I have no SNR problems with tracks that peak in the 20's
3 db louder is twice as...
You have the faders pushed up a little too high? Or you have some transients that are peaking you out, if that's the case you can use a limiter in the track inserts to flatten some of that out. Are you peaking all the time or just once in a while? Just when the vox come in? You can pull the...
You can get a used firepod for 200$ off CL or ebay, those have 8 better-than-mixer pre's, 10 inputs, and 10 outputs. Huge bang for the buck, they're popular around here. If you can live with 4 inputs, you can get slightly better sound quality. If you have firewire, get a firewire interface...
Assuming you do have an interface.. If you get a mixer, you need one with direct out's so you can feed your interface all the separate channels. In general you dont need a mixer to record, but there are a few caveats. 1, it's nice if you're recording a live band and need the mixer anyway. 2...
Whitey, I think you got the awesomest home studio here. I would kill for that desk! I've been looking far and wide for anything remotely close that doesn't cost $1000+.....
Anyway I'm getting situated in GA here, I have 1/2 my stuff set up ni the dining room :D My area is about 12'x12' with...
Hey u better watch out, I got neg'ed for saying that once.. The purist drum mic police on this board are out to getcha! Altho I do agree with ya :D
Listening to any OH tracks I ever recorded (which arent a lot but still..), I'd say putting the mic right over the drum kit would render a pretty...
^^^^^^^^^^ That. Having a little theory embossed into your brain can give you more options, alternate paths up and down a fretboard, more insight on what might sound good in the context of your song, all kinds of benefits. You won't get 'stuck in a rut' so easily.
Duesenberg, that is one nice clean modern looking setup! SS, not so much :D But mine isn't either, so I'm not raggin' on ya.. I'd be equally confy in either place. And Hung, that place looks like a carnival of vintage and esoteric gear, I never even seen/heard of half thaht stuff! A Toby...
You should buy the whole gear, not just a piece of it. I saw on the Jetsons once where Spacely Sprockets had like 1/4 of a gear and it wrecked a machine and fucked up the whole plant.
Nobody's gonna tell you u have no chance until we hear your tracks :D JK, and of course you can get inspiration from that stuff... Not giving up, fight on, protesting against upbringing, etc.. Hmmm yeah lol IDK if anyone ever thought to do music about any of that :p Being opinionated is a...
Roland is the KING of electronic drums, nothing sound as good. Especially if you're a drummer, youre not gonna like playing a little drum pad like the dd65. V-drums kits are very natural feeling, especially the mesh head kits, but they are not cheap.... But you get what you pay for.
LOL I listened to the tracks on your site in yer sig, hilarious :D 'Edward' reminds me of that '3 little pigs' song by green jelly.... Nice job on the production too, sounds great!
I listened to a few tracks there. Technically, in that kind of environment, your recording setup matters pretty much zero.. It's getting converted to really low bit rate mp3 type flash stream, basically myspace quality, and that's some pretty awful sound quality. You could be using a $10...
