2 P90's - pick up height and other general questions

The SG's are are a very playable instrument. When you first pick one up, the lack of weight is really striking, and you can have your doubts about the quality as they appear fairly rudimentary. But after playing one for a while, I have a lot of respect for them and really admire the tone. The...

    acoustic guitars - name brand

This highlights why you need to try out instruments before you purchase. I have only played two acoustics in the last 3 months, a friend's Martin Mini that came out to a camp site, and a 12 string Takamine which I rarely play. And they are both sublime guitars. There is no better or worse...

    Favorite Guitar brands?

The new Deluxe Jazz is an amazing instrument, but you need to remind yourself that it has changed relatively little over time. http://basscentre.com.au/uploadedFiles/1318755814853-8620.jpg Great wallpaper. Having succeeded in producing exceptional quality instruments across two styles my vote...

    Roland Super Natural Kits

Cheers X, Definitely keen to get my hand on a kit shortly. They are quite expensive, so have to budget for it, and save my money. Hopefully, one comes up on the second hand music websites in my area in the not too distant future.

Lead guitar / amp and reaverb

Just using the reverb on the amps. Most amps will have a switch to make the lead sound a bit more enticing. The Fender amps are well known for good reverb sound, namely the Deluxe Reverb and the Twin Reverb. If you can get a Vibroverb re-issue, then you will have a much better experience when...

    Roland Super Natural Kits

OK, Looking at buying a Roland Super Natural series kit in the next 6 months. Maybe something from Santa for the tree. In particular, the TD-11KV and the TD-15K have taken my fancy. These things sound like a dream, but wanted some feedback from anyone here who (a) plays the drums and (b) has...

    Squiers getting good again?

Japanese stratocaster's are nice guitars and great value for money. Nothing wrong with a Japanese Fender bass either.

Same pickups on LP Custom and LP Studio

A Custom Les Paul is in a league of its own, especially looking at the last 5 years of modern builds with Standards and Studio's. Les Paul's used to be manufactured at a rate of 2-6,000 per annum. Now they get produced at 60,000 per annum, so you need to look carefully at what you are buying to...

Cheers guys. Not that handy with crimping ribbons. As for the position of the microphone, I thought it attaches to the trumpet like this: Marcus Miller - Live at Jazz in Marciac 2012 - YouTube Might be a few years before I get good enough to get on the stage with Marcus Miller. Will try all...

    Bridge pins on acoustics

The points at which the strings join the guitar are vital. Neck nut and the bridge. Most important would be the quality of the woods during manufacture, and the way the guitar is crafted. The neck connection to the body for example is another vital connection. The woods used need to compliment...

    Guitar Tuning Pegs

The best thing to avoid guitar strings going out of tune is: (a) Buy a quality instrument . (b) When you put the strings in, give them plenty of "neatly organised" winds on the pegs. (c) When you put new strings on, give them some big bends to begin with, especially the treble strings. (c)...

    Microphone for Recording Brass

Cheers Cavedog, Budget would be up to $800, higher if it could be used for other instruments such as a 12 string guitar, or even an amplified electric guitar.

Just got Ableton and having serious problems exporting...

Same problem. The .wav format is pretty much the only format you can export the audio file in, and then it is unrecognizable by 99% of modern media players. Lol at the guy who said read the manual.
