I like to (digitally) copy the vox and other important reacks (bass/snare/foot) to a 2nd track to add fullness.
But when I move one of them...just a little forward or back, to get the doubling or fuller sound, I get a phase cancellation.
Took me a few HOURS to figure it out on a bass track.
The ART and NANO should do it.
I would definitely compress the bass, unless you are recording a really polished-pro bass player with excellent recording technique.
Anything less will result in quite a few 'peaks' that will cause clipping... They will limit your ability to turn the bass up. I...
I had the Tascam Rack mount for about 3 months... It is sooooo cool. But broguth it back and traded for a Blueberry BLue Mic... If you check Guitar Center... the Tascam is selling for 699 now... but the BLUE holds at 1000... I guess I got lucky... Get a burner for your computer and forget this...
I dont claim to be a pro. (I am not) but I have a lot of experience (constantly improving) recording live drums.
The overheads are gonna lose a lot of snare (and kick in my case) when you cut the lows.
My notes at home have more info, but probably, brutal cuts at everything below 800hz. Then...
Wasn't I the guy who said "hail S8N" during that big 'censorship' thing?
And now, the devil wants my daddy's mic's...
OK! Just post ur address and I'll send em right over.......
The Neumann site did give me some info about that mic... THANKS!
And umm... 50 or 60$ in 72?
Isnt that like 300$ today?
Why would you pay a pro to master, but not to play the instruments or, epecially, to record the album in the first place?
If it's important enuf to have 'professionally mastered' I would say its important enuf to have professionally recorded. Maybe a professionally recorded album -unmastered...
I raided my dad's studio today. Hmmmmm..
Neumann km84i
Sennheiser (no name but a kidney on it!)
AKG d224e (3 frickin overlapping kidneys!)
Shure 545s Unidyne III dynamic
2 E V 664's Dynamic Cardoid.
Anybody have any experience with these mics as to what they may be good for?
Anybody know of a...
Drum machine? You gotta tell us what kinda music/production you are doing before we can answer that. Country or hip-hop?
or country rap?
As far as the mixer..... I will sell you mine if you want! get it? spend the $ on a pre-amp and maybe... just maybe... you will never turn into one of those...
If you would never consider mastering, maybe you should never consider Mixing.
You KNOW there are pro's that can mix better than you.
Better yet, why are we wasting our time recording? There are pro engineers you KNOW could do better than you.
Even better yet!!!!!!!!!!! Lets sell our frickin...

The Book "Making the ultimate demo" is a compliation of magazine articles from one of the big music mags.
There is a section. "Thick and chunky guitar" they mention would make ac/dc proud! (or jealous, I dont remember the exact quote)
Get the book but I'll give you the idea. I dont remember the...
What recording software are you using? Do you have automated mixing? What do you know about eq?
You could simply assign the drums to a sub-group and manually pull them down a bit when the vocals come in and bring em back when the vocals are done.
You could try boosting eq (probably mids/high...
Wavelab.
real Time Effects and a quality wave editor as well.
I always thought "soundforge must suck. Who wants to ';apply' effects and THEN hear what they sound like. Preview sux since its usually not the whole song, just a snippet. No good at all. If u have a killer computer (I do :)) some...
You need a soundcard ans software.
easy huh? Does your 4 tracker have a stereo "mix" out? If so you can get a soundcard with only 2 inputs, and yes... record the mix into the computer, actually improve the sound with sftware effects (compression/reverb/etc) and burn baby, burn! Or just buy one...
I think... If you were gonna spend 1000$on a soundcard to avoid buying a mixer or 'mic preamp' then what do you want 8 channels of input for? So you can input them 2 at a time?
Maybe buy a Lexicon Core and the spend the balance on a "real" or at least definitely "better" preamp for less money...
I Know a Lot of people have the soundblaster card but I think thats cuz its cheep... I haven.t seen many junky thinks with a lexicon label on them, plus lexicon core gives you the option to buy the extra box (or does it come included?) to have the lexicon effects and not use cpu power.. I dont...
Look around on the net and you may get the eq and reverb as free downloads. There are some out there.
About the upgrade... If they are good effects, it may be wise to upgrade your cool edit. Look are ound for the price of plugins and do the math.
Hey Recording Engineer! About the panty hose....
I had no problem snuggling up to the panyhose at a particular studio in Van Nuys, Ca. because the panty hose had a story. They 'supposedly' had belonged to Pia Zadora.
He told of a session (at another studio) wher she was gonna sing and there was...
