    Peter Gabriel Cover

Nope, all gone. At least it was a cover tune that I learned my lesson on. I now have process of backing up my current sessions on a thumb drive in the case that it happens again, which will one day I know. When I started home recording the first thing I produced were some of my originals, I...

    Peter Gabriel Cover

Unfortunately if I do any tweeking it can only be of the mastering sort of the last mix I did from Cubase. My drive with the tracks on it crashed and I had to reformat. I had no back up. I know, I know, always back up. I am gonna try to some mastering to get a crisper/brighter sound. Thanks...

Awesome man. Vocals are stellar. What mic are you singing through?

    The "I can't sing" people!

Interesting how this thread started about the technique of breath support and now is people are talking about how you can be successful even if you cannot sing. Actually to me, Joe Cocker and Bob Dylan can sing. Neither really sings out of tune, they're techniques are just not how most teachers...

    The "I can't sing" people!

Well this guy would pass my audition because no where did I state that students had to identify what they were singing notation wise. And I also never said I would "write a kid off" if he didn't match pitch early on. I start with a pattern, a pattern that uses only two pitches(And yes two...

    The "I can't sing" people!

I guess I should have said, I can tell who has a "better" musical ear. But in my practice, most of the time, the students who can match the simple "sol-mi" or "g-e" early on are also the ones that can sing back a melody, say of 10 notes like you mentioned. And just so you know, I give everyone...

    The "I can't sing" people!

To me singing is much like any other instrument. Yes it starts with breath support, not unlike picking technique on guitar, but you learn your vocal range like a guitarist learns a fret board. What pitch do you change into falsetto, using your chest and head voice, blending full voice and...

    Peter Gabriel Cover

I happen to agree with you. It's just not crisp. Do you have any suggestions on how to clean that up moving forward?

Thanks, yes more an interpretation. I don't have a fretless bass at my disposal or someone who can play it like that :)

    pink floyd cover

Music is quite cool. Vocals do need work though, melody is just not there. It doesn't need to be exactly like the original but you are still off pitch on several notes.

    Its been awhile.

I like the tune as well. Steve gives some good advice above, no reason to repeat it.

Recording 101 questions - microphone, Windows ten, and Audacity

Sounds like you might be recording through the built in mic on the computer. I would check and make sure the input is set for your Presonus. You should have no problem getting enough signal through a condenser mic. Also make sure phantom power is turned on.

Acoustic Recordings of Songs in Progress

Cool. I would try doing a few recording the guitar separately even for demo purposes. Your timing is a bit off on both parts at times and the vocals have some pitch problems here and there. Concentrating on one at a time might help. Just my two cents of course, keep at it, and yes quitting...

Acoustic Recordings of Songs in Progress

Hey man, you have a strong voice, nice baritone quality. Are singing and playing at the same time on most of these?

What is a good monitoring volume in headphones when recording?

Monitoring to me is a personal preference. Find a blend that works for you and gives you the RECORDED sound you want and stick with it. I think it will be nearly impossible to not hear your acoustic guitar and voice outside of the headphones, so I don't know if that's a technique I would spend...

    DAW Timing

This is what I was trying to say as well. Your compensation could cause problems both ways. If you have tried it without effects and with the direct monitor and you still have the problem then please disregard all that I have stated and try what miroslav posted.

    DAW Timing

I would try recording the part with the Direct Monitor on the Focusrite engaged. If the timing is fixed that way, then you know it's a setting or something within the DAW. Are you applying effects to the part you are recording while actually recording? This can cause latency. If these are not...

    Autotune and improving your vocals

Practice singing. Practice singing scales/arpeggios using solfege or scale degrees. Practice singing scales/arpeggios on all of the vowel sounds. If there is no one to give you feedback, use the tuning software trick after recording yourself doing these exercises. This is especially helpful for...
