    Linking two amps together??

oh, I see: you want to use 2 different voicings from Channel 2 (modeling), one as your clean, the other as your "crunch". Me too :D it would've been so easy for Fender to make both channels identically versatile (modeling). but oh, well.

    Fender Vibro-Champ XD?

well, that's all true :D that's why people tend to replace the speaker and/or drive a cab, with good results. but that's also why people go for SCXD - it has a 10" speaker. I love mine, but I still feel that I'd much prefer the sound of 1 or even 2 12" speakers. That's why I'm eyeing a cheap...

    Linking two amps together??

el, Voicing #4 on Ch. 2 of SCXD seems to be about the same as the clean channel 1. Try that. otherwise, yes, you could have 2 and a/b with a footswitch. I have a channel footswitch and I'm quite happy with my 1 SCXD, although in a perfect world i'd like both channels to have all the different...

    Fender Vibro-Champ XD?

I have SCXD, but played through the VCXD in a store, demoing guitars. Seemed about the same to me - some people actually prefer VCXD. SCXD is Class A/B, VCXD is Class A (some people prefer it, if they can hear the diff). VCXD will not give you clean/overdrive footswitchability. Also VCXD has...

    strat clone?

i see what you mean, but just about all of recent reviews seem to indicate no issues. see here: http://www.agileguitarforum.com/

    strat clone?

pickups/wiring - i understand (and that is both fun and worth the effort), but why replace the neck? at that rate you might be able to just buy a strat body.

    strat clone?

there we go again with the "resale value" :) If the guitar is so good, why sell it? And if the OP is looking for a clone (i.e. can't afford MIA), what does it matter how much money he gets back if he sells it? He can get an axe that'll be just as good as current production fenders and really...

    1 x 12 amps?

i think the OP question is about the 1x12 vs. 2x12 sound. he's not looking for amp recommendations (at least, doesn't seem to be) and has already been looking at VOX.

    assortment of pups?

IMHO only you can answer that question - you have to know what you want, what sound you're going for. each pickup you choose - you should understand why you're choosing it. True, reading textual descriptions is not the same as hearing, but you'll have to make a leap of faith at some point. But...

    1 x 12 amps?

if you don't mind lugging the heavy 2x12 (they ARE heavy), stick with the 2 - it sounds so much ... fuller, richer. i love the sound of multiple speakers. but that's not to say that a 1x12 can't handle the job.

    strat clone?

yeah, they're ok, but overpriced.

    strat clone?

Rondo's SX brand has better/cheaper strat clones than Fender makes  I got a p-bass to give to a friend (it was under $200 with hard case). That thing was incredibly nice - vintage tinted neck, nice, solid alder body, good fretwork (looked like hand-finished) and we went to Sam Ash...

Sign of a bad guitar cable...

could it be a bad jack on your instrument? it just seems that no matter how cheap, a cable should at least be functional (when new). a cheap cable might not last long or endure heavy duty use, but before it's damaged it should work and sound fine. if it is a defective cable, you should be able...

Need a couple of decent/inexpensive backup guitars...

i honestly think you'd have a better guitar with one of these: SX KY1 CUS 24 http://www.rondomusic.com/cgi-rondomusic/sb/productsearch.cgi I like this one: http://www.rondomusic.com/product1957.html (or search Rondo for "ky1 cus") - these are set-neck, solid mahogany bodies with nice finish...

    Ngd!

meow. next time i see a kat in a store i'm gonna play one. i prefer alleykat (for looks) - i like this type of guitar to have something other than the dot markers, but other than that... meow.

    why i love bass players

maybe... too bad Sid wasn't really a bass player :D a few key quotes from the wiki-link: "Sid was not recognised as a competent bass player."... "At times during performances, other band members would unplug Sid's bass because his playing was so bad" .... "And he still couldn't play bass when he...

    Acoustic-electric issue...

wouldn't the shimmed nut slot only cause a problem with unfretted low-E note? nut falls out of equation when you fret. but muttley is right - piezo pickup is a thin strip of pressure-sensitive material (piezo-electric) under the bridge saddle (which is that white plastic or bone thingy over the...

Need a couple of decent/inexpensive backup guitars...

true, by all counts. SX have gotten much more consistent lately, though. i agree about pacificas, fretwork and better pickups, but personally i still think the pickups are worthy of an upgrade. as to "some work" on SX, again, true, but some people actually enjoy that. you really personalize a...

    why i love bass players

well... me too. that - yes. i always laugh when bassists talk about being underappreciated or underrated or when people think their bass is a guitar - there's certainly a good bit of snobbery going on at bass forums. but that's just the thing - they start saying how they're "more" of a musician...

    why i love bass players

no sense in dissing drummers either. it's true, there's plenty of them out there that just learned a few beats, but the same goes for guitar. a real drummer (they do exist) will both understand music (at least the rythm part of it) and feel music. i've had pleasure of working with some - it's a...
